Firstly I would like to say how I have absolutely no interest in the games whatsoever.

But this opening ceremony is simple amazing

    I'm speechless!

I am too impressed, especially as The Jam track lead the music montage.

Surprised not to hear any Zeppelin, Clash or Oasis. I also thought it'd be really funny if they ended on "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba.

    Dizzee Rascal ruined it.

I've been impressed by various Olympic Opening Ceremonies, but the sotto voce singing of Abide With Me had me getting a lump in the throat. I missed most of it, but I might go back and have a proper look at the beginning, based on the quality of what I've seen.

Shaky start, but I think it was brilliant.

A load of planes using smoke, to show us a giant representation of Pompey's kit colours.

    I thought it was marvelous.

Dizzee's an East London boy, born n bred on a council estate in Bow. Choked me up seeing him strut his stuff.

Don't really get why everyone is saying it educated the world on British history - isn't the only real education it handed out "Britain used to make stuff, now they make music"

It's all a matter of taste, Joe.

I don't care for it either, nor your motions too most likely, but to some he's the Bee's patellas.

Completely different to Beijing! Somewhat random but very entertaining! Loved the dancing guys in top hats, and the NHS bit was random but strangely amusing. Plus, Voldemort at the opening ceremony!

Love the parade of nations as well, it's so bloody fantastic to see so many countries united through sport. It doesn't matter whether you're left or right wing, whether you're European, Asian, American or Africa, whether you're from a rich or poor country. Tonight, for a few hours we're all united, as mankind. Come together in the greatest sporting event in the world!
