It always does my head in that there is this whole national identity issue.

I'm english, I'm proud to be English, and England is a part of Britain, and I'm proud about that as well. Wheres the issue. I'd expect someon e from Wales or Scotland to feel the same way.

If I was from Florida, I'd be proud to be a Floridian and also proud to be an American.

It's just a non-issue thrown around by nationalist mongs at the end of the day, Lets keep the hatred inter-county. Not inter-country.

It's an anthem whose lyrics pertain to a mythical deity 'looking over' a monarch who could hardly be more disconnected from normal society, as well as 'crushing' a large proportion of the people who are supposed to take pride in it. It's an appalling anthem that gives credence not to the average man, or the hard-working, or the natural beauty of this fine part of the world, but to a woman who has done nothing but be born into a royal bloodline. Time for a new one, methinks.

I'm not really sure what you mean by that, sir. What would your suggestions for a new anthem be?

if i could choose our anthem it would be jerusalem without any question. you can't get more inspiring than that <ok>

here comes a copy and paste job...

And did those feet in ancient time
    Walk upon england's mountains green?
And was the holy lamb of god
    On england's pleasant pastures seen?
    And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
    And was jerusalem builded here
    Among those dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear: o clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariots of fire!
    I will not cease from mental fight;
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
    Till we have built jerusalem
In england's green and pleasant land.

The answer to all these questions is NO.

If you are serious about an alternative it has to be Land of Hope and Glory or Rule Britannia

Jerusalem is based on the theory that a "young Jesus" visited England between the age of 12 and 30(the lost years)

How that has anything to do with Patriotism, national identity etc misses me.:undecided:

Perhaps you could enlighten me Supers?

    ****ing hell.

i couldn't give a toss what our anthem is about if truth be told!

i just can't stand the awful anthem we have right now and i'm not alone. i want something which has a tune, something which actually makes you sing along without being forced to do so. something which makes you feel proud without wanting to poke my fingers in my ears.

jerusalem does that for me <ok>
