Well was just reading this article on Liam Cooper: http://www.football-lad.com/one-to-watch-liam-cooper/ To be fair there article is not bad, but you forget how long ago it was that he made his debut for us. However he is still young but should we loan him out or keep him? Clearly with the signing of Faye and with us already having Chester Bruce clearly sees him as back up rather than first team material. Yet he is good enough to be here as third choice but as his age he really needs to be playing as thats how you learn. So personally i think we need to loan him out and get him game time. Though with that we are left short of cover so its an interesting one. Personally i think him and Bradley certainly have the ability to make it at his level, yet we don't have the position for them in the first team at the moment so they really do need to go out on loan. Would you lot rather keep him or send him out on loan?
I'd keep Cooper, he's a good all-round defender and the perfect cover really. His combined lack of height when played with Chester can be an issue but as a cover player I don't think we can expect much more. Bradley might have to go out on loan if all 4 centre backs stay fit in the second half of the season because I don't see hikm getting a game under those circumstances.
i wonder if there are other issues, such as temperament or personality which none of us see from where we sit that have restricted his progress. He is an enigma to me?
Like so many of our other young players he's never been given a chance for long enough and been loaned out almost as if just to get him out of our hair, to a club who don't even seem to want him. (Nothing to do with his nationality though ) Also I heard something Bruce said after Ferriby, I can't remember the exact wording but he made a comment about only having so many players available and suggested that the younger players for some reason don't count, as if he doesn't have faith in a player who doesn't have experience already. As I say it's only something I picked up from an interview and it could be bollocks but I got the impression from that that he might not give people like Cooper and Cullen the chance they need.
Cullen doesnt deserve any more chances--Cooper does as I think given more opportunity he will develop into one of our better products(local lad does good)
I know I'm in a minority but I like Cullen, he's a lot more talented than people realise and that's why he played in the PL at 18 years old and scores for fun in friendlies/reserves etc when he gets a chance. People who complain about the likes of McLean being all work rate and no talent, should give Cullen a chance because even if he isn't the finished article he has all the instinct and finishing ability you need to be a decent striker.
hey we agree on something. i too like cullen. i ve followed him through reserves and juniors and seen a potential Michael Owen (ok maybe not quite the actual Michael Owen but similar in characteristics and style). Contrary to popular belief, I really do not think he has been given the opportunity he deserves. 15 mins as sub in the odd game is not an opportunity for a kid in my book. Undoubtedly, after suffering injuries and possible as rumoured attitude issues, this year is a big one for him. Either with City Reserves, or wherever he is farmed out on loan, he has to be a regular goalscorer to further (or launch) his career.
any attacker to succeed has to be a regular a regular goal scorer to further their career-unfortunately cullen hasn't produced with us or on loan
cullen has been injured for most of his loan spells and since the murdoch league debut has had few real opportunities with us
Cullen partnered Simpson for a good number of matches right at the beginning of our drop down to the championship - he failed to score, he was often offside. I saw him a bit on tigersplayer vs Grimsby, he got some decent shots away, still seems confident. But you can't see him getting in the team now with 4 other strikers above him.
Not meaning to sound cynical, but I have never liked Cullen. I've always thought his positioning was poor, he never really got into goal scoring opportunities unless he was playing for the reserves. I know he's only young, but he needs to spend time in League 2 and find his goalscoring feet.
SteelCityTiger, you don't post very much, but when you do I always think "I like that avatar". So, just so you know, I like that avatar. Who is it? And what does it mean? Yours, Party (Hull) !
But Simpson didn't score either, we didn't score a goal from a striker until December, that tells you we probably weren't creating much. The offside argument isn't really valid either. Everyone says about Cullen being offside all the time but it's when he's making positive runs. Most agree that Fryatt is our best striker (debatable now Prossy is here but you know what I mean) and he is offside just as much as Cullen but he manages to do it from more frustrating positions such as when dropping back for the ball, at least when Cullen does it he is making a forward run trying to score. I think he does exactly that: gets into scoring positions. He's never had a run in the first team apart from the aformentioned time in 10/11 when we were prettty crap. Aside from that he's done nothing but score for the reserves/friendlies etc. I really think based on watching him that there is talent in there.
It is a tribute to the musical powerhouse that is Mark Gormley And just to reiterate, Cullen is jenk.

Long-time lurker here, compelled to contribute. I had the chance to meet Liam several times over the summer and from what I can tell he is a thoroughly nice chap with his head in the right place. He works hard and I can't see him having any issues with temperament. As for a perceived lack of height, he is much taller than the 5'11 which various internet sources list him as. I am a legitimate 6'2 and he is every bit as tall as I am, if not more so. Remember he is a young lad and still growing.
