Had a very inyetesting conversation this evening with my old mentor from the time I did my badges. He expects Brendan Rodgers to ease Gerrard out of Anfield, and not as you might expect because he is ageing, but because he doesn't have a good enough short game.
It's a shame neither you nor your "mentor" know anything more than the man down the pub when it comes to football.
It's people like this guy that really take the IQ of this board down sometimes. Those pesky Geordie bastards don't help either.
Wind Up whom with what? Gerrard has been a fantastic Player, and still could be imo, if played further back. He has been an almost complete Player, but the 'almost' is necessary because Xavi he ain't, or Iniesta, or Silva or Scholes for that matter. Far too often in Internationals he has been by-passed, and the question has been asked "Why can't he do what he does for Liverpool?" well he is hardly on his own there, but if Rodgers is looking to change the tempo, and shorten the game, I think there is some merit in what I was told tonight.
Ok I'll bite: didn't even under Hodgeson & "luck" of Lampard's injury not show that the England set up for both Gerrard & Lampard suffered because no manager made up their mind. So bit of a side step referencing the national team. Either one would have excelled if just one had been picked at a time. Strangely I agree in principal if not believing it will be as immediately brutal especially in light of how prepared Gerrard was to do as told for Hodgeson. Gerrards position will not be automatic anymore because a majority of fans acknowledge his time is limited & will understand the greater good argument. if backed by results. But Gerrard realizes that too more so than Carragher I believe.
leaving DS aside, we all know that time and injury have taken their toll on Gerrard. He is no longer the amazing box to box player of yesteryear. However, I totally disagree with the idea that he should be moved further back. Whilst he did a good job there for England, it also restricted his ability to get forward and create in vital areas of the pitch. To me it appeared that Kenny wanted to play him in the 'hole' behind Suarez and Carroll. As events transpired, the number of times that this formation were ever on the same pitch at the same time were very limited. However, it is in that role that I believe that Gerrard could have the most significant impact this season.
Gerrard is getting older. But: 1. he is a legend and never left when he could have.....we will always owe him. 2. I dont know this for fact, but i imagine Gerrards name is on more Liverpool shirts sold each season than anyone else. 3. Even if he is not going to start every game. His desire wnd drive make him an essential impact player or calm head, (whatever is needed) 4. Given the Liverpool team in front of me and i have to go for an autograph.....Im running to one player, as would most. Pub speculation.....what a load of bollocks.....in terms of revenue for the club outside of football, Gerrard is still our main asset and he will be asked to be an ambassador like Rush and Fowler when he retires........Aside from the football Gerrard pays for himself.....Muppet Article.....
