http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11676/7935391? Blackburn defender Martin Olsson has handed in a transfer request at Ewood Park, according to the Sweden international's agent. The left-back, who is currently recovering from a groin operation, suffered relegation to the Championship with Rovers last season. He has been linked with a return to the Premier League this term, with Stoke thought to be chasing the 24-year-old. Olsson's agent, Martin Dahlin, claims he has requested a transfer because he does not want to ply his trade in the second tier. He told Fotbollskanalen.se: "It is correct that Martin has handed in a transfer request. Of course he doesn't want to play in the Championship." Olsson, who has three-years remaining on his Rovers contract, can also play on the left wing. The Swede came through the ranks with the Lancashire side after joining as a youngster from native club Hogaborgs BK. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11699/7935078? Sky Sports understands Stoke are eyeing a move for Wolves midfielder Michael Kightly. Kightly is entering the final year of his contract at Molineux and Wolves could be forced to cash-in now, rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer. The 26-year-old has endured an injury-hit time at Molineux, but he battled back to fitness last season and was one of Wolves' shining lights despite their relegation from the Premier League. Kightly scored three goals in 16 appearances after returning at Christmas following a successful spell on loan at Watford. The skilful winger scored one of his three Premier League goals against Stoke last term and Potters boss Tony Pulis is thought to be a big admirer. Pulis is keen to add to his attacking options this summer and the Wolves man is thought to figure highly on his wanted list.
Quick question. Is olsson a winger or left back cuz sure i herd he a winger maybe wrong i usually am. Not seen much of him so is he any good. Kightley was impressed by him against us but again aint seen mucj of him have a proper opinion. Well if theres any truth in the rumours least they both arent central defenders lol
Potter Herb I think? didn't his (TWIN) brother play for Blackburn too? Could be that the other was a "Winger" either that, or this guy can play both positions.
Just had a look at his Wikipedia page, they both play LB and LW, but by the sounds of it is brother is more of a winger (also plays up front) and Martin is more a LB. I'd be happy if we got him, not too impressed with the Kightly link, having said that I've not seen a great deal of him to form an opinion, and my old boss was a Wolves fan and he really rated him, said he'd got loads of potential, but that was about 3 years ago, so it may not have been fulfilled...
If they can both pass a ball to our own players then it's a step in the right direction, if nothing else we have more options.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-for-Steven-Fletcher-and-Michael-Kightly.html Stokeâs £2 million bid for Kightly has been rejected by the Championship club. Kightly, 26, has one year remaining on his contract and Tony Pulis is keen to bring in the winger to provide competition for Jermaine Pennant and Matthew Etherington. But Wolves have turned down the bid and Stoke are unlikely to return with an improved offer. http://www.clicklancashire.com/spor...pton-for-blackburn-rovers-winger-olsson.html? According to reports Premier League clubs are chasing Blackburn Rovers full-back Martin Olsson. The Daily Mail claims Stoke City, Sunderland, Southampton and West Ham United have all been linked with the Sweden international. Olsson has so far been frustrated by his failure to secure a move away from Ewood Park. It is understood that Rovers have so far rejected a £1.5 million offer for the 24-year-old and instead want nearer £4 million. His agent Martin Dahlin said: "It is true that Martin has submitted a transfer request. Of course, he would not play in the Championship."
I think the Knightly deal is still likely - he fits our budget and that will drive our purchases more than any other transfer window.
http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/story-16648236-detail/story.html? STOKE boss Tony Pulis is poised to make a final decision on whether to take the plunge for Wolves winger Michael Kightly. The two clubs have been in negotiation for several days, but Stoke may have to pay more than their £2m valuation. Pulis, who returned to the UK after Stoke's tour of America yesterday, will also be anxious to avoid a third party weighing in with an 11th-hour interest to scupper his designs on the 26-year-old. Kightly, pictured below, is more familiar with the right wing, but could be utilised on either side if he ends up at the Britannia Stadium. And that will throw down the gauntlet to both Jermaine Pennant and Matthew Etherington who have had little previous competition for their roles. Kightly, who has a year left on his current contract at Molinuex, is known to be keen on remaining in the Premier League after being relegated with Wolves and subjected to a major pay cut as a result. Pulis is satisfied his well-documented injury problems are a thing of the past after playing without problems over the last nine months. That included a loan spell at Watford to speed up his rehabilitation, and former Stoke midfielder John Eustace, still skipper at Vicarage Road, said he believed Kightly would prove a great asset should he move to the Brit. Pulis was also a keen admirer of Kightly's wing partner Matt Jarvis, but the current asking price appears to be well out of Stoke's reach. Former England striker Michael Owen remains on Stoke's radar after becoming a free agent following his departure from Manchester United. Any contract for the 32-year-old would have to be weighted heavily towards his playing record following his poor fitness record in recent years. Even then, Pulis may have to make considerable room on his wage bill to accommodate a player used to earning in excess of £50,000-a-week in the past. Owen would be handled sensitively at the Britannia to try to ensure his consistent fitness, and that would include deploying him largely as an impact player from the bench. Owen has been training on his own all summer after choosing to ponder his options, but he has now said he is about to make a decision on a new club that would mean remaining at his North West base.
Still not sold on Kightly, read a few days ago in The Sentinel "But while Jarvis will cost nearer £6m, Kightly could be prised away for a third of that because he only has a year left on his contract." And I thought, "I could be wrong, but he only seems about a third as good..."
Once the new Portsmouth, otherwise known as QPR, were in for him we'd have no chance of getting him. No doubt he's on extortionate wages that we wouldn't offer him.
I read somewhere that it was 60k a week. I dont think it was the wages, more the fact that he wanted to play for Hughes. I honsetly believe that when you are talking with players at the pay scale it is just as much about the player wanting to play for the manager and feeling they will get a run of games. 50K+ a week on Owen as a impact sub seems crazy to me!
Agreed Potter Palm A decent player and competition for Matty or Pennant. I'm happy enough with that. IF it happens
I cant comment really because I dont think I have seen him play. I was under the impression that he was injured last season and then spent 6 months on loan at Watford. This ring alarm bells (just look at the Palcious situation) - we will be buying a player that has not played a competitive prem match last season and couldnt male the relegated Wolves team? I hope he does provide competition for Matty & Pennant, but cant see it myself - just hope he doesn't turn out to be another Soars or Tongue. Millions and wages that could potentially be put to better use - however as said on another thread I think we are going to be heavily restricted this year in what we can afford.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11701/7967934? Sky Sports understands Stoke have agreed a fee with Wolves for Michael Kightly. As revealed by Sky Sports last month, Stoke were lining up a move for the winger as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new Premier League season. Stoke's initial offer for Kightly was rejected, but they have come with an improved offer that has now been accepted by the Wolves hierarchy. Kightly, who has one year to run on his contract at Molineux, impressed during the second half of last season at Wolves after returning at Christmas following a successful spell on loan at Watford. Stoke boss Tony Pulis is thought to be a big admirer of Kightly and is keen to add him to the ranks at the Britannia Stadium. Kightly is now set for talks with Pulis about a move to the Potteries with Stoke hoping to tie up a deal for the 26-year-old later this week. Happy with the news about Kightly. Think Jarvis is better but Kightly is a better deal than £10m plus for Jarvis
The only problem with Kightly is his fitness. Before he started getting injured a lot, he was most definitely Premier League class. I mean Fergie was watching him and he knows a player when he sees one! I believe Kightly will turn out to be a fine signing if he does sign and I back Pulis to get him fit. Underrated player. From what I've read the Wolves fans are gutted he's leaving and a great deal prefer him to Jarvis.
I have had a look round and there is quite a bit of positive feedback on Knightly. Like I said I cant comment because I cant remember seeing him play (dont know whether that is food or bad?) but I am worried about another dubious fitness record. The way we play demands fitness above the standard premier league player. I agree with srg that if we do get Knighty at 2-3 million it looks a better deal than Jarvis at 10 million, but my preference would have been an established prem winger around 5-6 million.
Smither's I tend to agree with Sgt Potter.. Jarvis IMO isn't worth TEN million? I'm sure kightley would do very well for us. I too looked around certain pages.. Wolves fans are indeed gutted to see he may be leaving.
