Having said all of that.... he needs an active account to do that and his 3 accounts are no more....

 

I have to say...you have a point. It is better than winning nothing but I think the league cup looks much better when it compliments another success. Say if we won both cups then you can say that is a fairly decent achievement.

Liverpool won silverware in the least convincing manner possible: in the midst of a season in which they had ceased to be relevant in any aspect of the league by March, by which point they had become a generally accepted figure of ridicule in respect of their transfer policies, and by beating a lower division team by the skin of their teeth.

And still it gave them something to hold their head up about, and the right to participate the in same Euro kickabouts as us. If we finished a season 7th having played adequately and with a cup, it would be pretty sweet

 

Lets be realistic though, Liverpool winning the league cup and us winning the league cup are two very different things! We have won **** all for many moons. The reason its not looked on so fondly by their support is they have recent history of winning trophies. They've won an assortment of trophies since 2001 including CL, UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup. That tends to raise your expectations a little. And the big one they really want more than any is still eluding them.

If we were to finish 8th and win a cup, I'd be over the moon. I would not think it a bad season at all league wise. I see no reason why we can't have a good run at the cups and still be in and around the UEFA places. But if we did have a bad season league wise and won a cup I'd still be over the moon. We do need to win something at some stage. Thankfully progress in cups usually goes hand in hand with doing better in the league.

Our bottom priority next season is without doubt the Europa. It simply has to be because we have little hope of winning it and its obviously the competition which is going to have the most profound effect on our league season.

Football is all about business to the board etc, but romance of winning stuff is still upper most in the majority of supporters. We've already experienced how quickly high league finishes can fall away if you don't establish a culture of actually winning trophies. You can't put winning a trophy above everything because you'd be a fool. Look at Middlesbrough. But equally for the reasons I've mentioned it should always be at the forefront of your mind. Hence Man City targetting a domestic cup as the starting point, they won that and took that confidence of winning trophies into the following season. People will say "aye but how much money was pumped in". Indeed but how much money was pumped in previously without success!
