All my Ben Arfas have been banned due to over excited moderators lol Lazarus - back from the dead! lol
The problem with pre-season is that wumming has no real weight. Need the season to start so we can have a good wum about the poor results hehe Liverpools transfer policy has been wummed to death.... to the point where I even think Liverpool fans laugh at it.
Shelvey showed why we don't need to spend 15 mil on Allen and I think at 15 million, hell even 10 mil it is too much.
Exactly. Allen is a good player but Shelvey is already at the same level and 2 years younger. Really impressive.
I havent been his biggest admirer but when he went off we lost a lot in midfield and that says alot for a 20 year old playing against Roma.
Shelvey is class, I really hope he doesn't go on loan this season (as reports suggest we were offering him to Swansea) as I think he is ready to step in when needed for us.
Yea, I'd rather keep the Jonjo and spend the extra £5m for Allen. Bluff doesn't agree...I don't give a ****.
Shelvey is awesome, but I the long run I think he will take Gerrard's spot in midfield, bombing forward, putting balls in the box, scoring goals. My thoughts are still 'do we need Allen when we have Henderson'. But I can see positives in signing Allen, as his passing is great and Henderson will have to readjust after his season wasted on right wing.
I'm a big fan of Shelvey - he looks mature, calm and composed on the ball and most importantly, he wants it. You can see him getting closer to the player and almost demanding the ball (Gerrard-esque) and he has the self belief to run with the ball, long passes, difficult through balls etc. He is still very raw but I do believe he could develop into a top class midfielder. With regards to Allen, I feel that we need a player like him in the team as a partner for Lucas. Adam should have done this but struggled when Lucas was out injured and there are question marks over his fitness and mobility. As I have stated before, £13.5m+ for Allen is too much. Someone mentioned earlier that any British player with a bit of technique is seen as the next best thing, and this is what leads to inflated prices. If we can get Allen for £10m then I think it would be a good deal. If we got him for £15m, then we'll have another situation where the price tag will outweigh the players performance and can cause unneccessary pressure, and possibly more ridicule from rival fans and the media (ala Henderson and Carroll). I do think he is a good player and I would like to see him in the team but in the context of our finances (I don't think we have that much to play with?) I believe £15m could be spent on beefing up the front 3. P.S I don't believe that just because Allen has PL experience makes him more adaptable to our team and the league than Johnny Foreigner.
I think it's a win-win for us. Shelvey goes on loan to Swansea - great, he'll get 30 odd games in a similar style to ours. He stays - great, we can use him quite regularly.
I think it should be both, we still sign Allen and still play the 3 of Lucas Gerrard Allen but Shelvey is first choice back up and comes in as cover if any of the 3 are to be rested or are injured. It gives us choices Gerrard Lucas Allen Shelvey Lucas Allen Gerrard Allen Shelvey Gerrard Lucas Shelvey
