This sounds like a solid signing to me. I was a bit worried about the previous injuries, but apparently he played the last 20 games for Sunderland so hopefully that is behind him now. With Cuellar and possibly Collins coming in, they have too many CBs. Good PL expereince with Hull as well as Sunderland. Does this mean Barnett will be leaving or going out on loan?
I am more than happy to welcome MT on board, a good solid defender that will help out our back line a tremedous amount more. Another signing that no one would have guessed at but nearly everyone is more than happy about apart from the other lot
I have always liked Turner. I hope this is true. He would add experience, Strength and leadership at the back. Again, he isn't blessed with a great deal of pace, but If we managed to get Davies as well, we would have Very good depth at CB.
Hull fan here, I think you have just got a fantastic player, he was great when he was with us. He was our captain and was our pleyer of the season for 3 seasons running. Well done on getting him and I hope you do well and survive next season
Speaking honestly, Turner was one of the defenders I wanted us to off-load. Injury prone now and just not mobile or pacey enough for premiership football. Put a ball in the box though and you know he will be the one heading it back out, like the other lads have said he is solid (like an old fashioned centre half), with the pace premier league clubs have going forward now, I would be seriously worried. Good luck for next season, the premiership is a better place for having your fans in it
To be fair though if you wanted someone as solid as Turner but with pace we would be looking at a lot more money than we can afford at the moment! I think put with either Bennett or Ayala he would form a decent partnership with them as there both young and have good pace He is more than adequate for our squad for the coming season, with his experiance plus hes an improvement on last year he will be a welcome addition to a very young squad! Good luck next season SAFC
I think Bennett could do with playing alongside someone with experience and he certainly fits the bill. A good solid defender IMO.
The answer to lack of pace is nous i.e. reading the game combined with positional sense (and of course good back line coaching). Just need to think of Tony Adams.
Indeed, but that said, neither Keown nor Bould were exactly greyhounds alongside Adams. I know football itself has changed since those days and CB play with it; but a lot of goals are still scored in rather old fashioned ways, as our headed goals tally shows. And against Celtic the other night, Samaras should have scored after a long pass straight down the middle from the Celtic side of the centre line!
Those of us old enough to remember, can't remember. It's one of life's meanest tricks dave! Enough to drive a man to the bottle ........
Dejan never had pace but he was brilliant defenders need calm clear thinking as much as pace no point rushing into a mistake!
