Problem with team GB is that its a novelty project that nobody is really taking ownership of. After the olympics it will be disbanded. We can't use it like the south Americans do because neither eng, Wales, Scotland or NI managers have any input, we can't use it to gel a side together that can then progress to the world cup. Its awesome for Brazil as they get competitive games in the a sense of world cup qualifiers, so they will prob be more serious than anyone. Not sure the other south american sides would take it as seriously if it came on the back of the cops America.

There is no point in anyone treating team GB anything other than a novelty, that's all it is. I don't judge bale at all.

Why don't you compare your international teams achievements against nations of a similar size?

I know England have convinced themselves they are a top footballing nation because of their ability to steamroll minute countries like Andorra and Moldova but you should really start making fair comparisons. Like the fact Spain who have 10m less people in their country than England have won more in the last 6 years than England have in their history.

And you got to one, in your own back yard, now baz the size of you compared to our 3 million, and the league structure that exists in your country compared to mine, in what 80 years you have reached 1 world cup final,

Seriously? A pissing contest between 4 home nations that include:

England; a national team that seems to be hated more only by a large section of its own countries football fans & media than the rest of the world that now merely shows mild disinterested contempt: a bit like the players that pull on the 3 lions.

Wales: more than half this nation thinks the games for fairies who brought the wrong shaped ball.

Scotland: At first glance seem to be supported in that happy go lucky Irish way until the sheer bitter hatred for those below the border shines through.

Northern Ireland: hated or at least distrusted by at least half the population due to the fact that like everything else over here it's been used as a political weapon & with some justification when listening to some of those who sound like the BNP in a Norn Iron replica shirt that makes the rest of us embarrassed to be seen supporting them.

Then attempt to put all this shambles together???

Despite all this I truly attempt to support all the home nations with the addition of the Republic. I like to see them all do well, even though that rarely has or will happen.

I just can't bring myself to support "Team GB" (even swallowing the arrogant catchy monica that nicely excludes NI) simply because it's a poor shadow of a gimmick of two pseudo teams. It's a joke and an embarrassment from top to bottom.

I remember every world cup from 74 onwards...I remember England not qualifying in 74 and 78, going out in 82 without losing, 86's hand of god, 1990's semi final, not qualifying in 94, beckham's red in 98, brazil in 02 from the 40 yards, outclassing the mighty Trinidad in 06 and the south african mess in 2010. It's a similar story with the Euro's from 1980 onwards...
I can not remember a single GB match at any previous olympics...ever.
Therefore until this year it ain't meant anything to the media so this Bale stuff is rubbish.

According to wiki GB won gold in this event in 1908 and 1912 and competed up until 1972 but this is the first time since then that a GB team has been entered.
