Just watch todays LA Galaxy v Spurs (friendly) game in LA. Bale brought down when attempting to round their keeper was as blatant a penalty as your likely to see from now till christmas. Dear I say, 'the referees are at it already'. Although not at peek sharpness we, in my opinion, were generally piss poor. Bartham looked less then average for a premiership player and sigurdsson look decidedly poor. They both might need a lot of time to adjust. There was hardly any cohesion among our players on the pitch today. We also picked up two injuries, VDV limped off early and Walkers' ankle took a serious knock (waiting for word on both). Although we can expect an improved showing from the lads on Saturday against Liverpool in Baltimore, there is obviously a lot of work to be done before the start of the premership season. Our passing was atrocious. It was however, great to see the likes of Huddlestone and Dawson on the field again. Bentley tried but might as well not have bothered. Janas showed willing., and notedly Defoe looked as if he was still up for it. Are we usually as poor as this pre season, or is it just me this year ?. Men of the match today: Assou-Ekotto and Bale
IIRC weren't we dire last pre-season as well? This continued into the first 2 matches of the PL as well.
I'd rather be poor preseason, that way there's time to work on the flaws, as opposed to winning all our matches and then having 2 points from 8 games
I have watched only the 1st half (recorded) and will watch the rest later, but the commentators kept on about the high line of defence and that we were unsure. Also noted was that Cudicini had a poor game due to that fact- they said- Kaboul & Verts played like strangers - umm they basically are don't think they have played together have they. On the plus side Livermore had quite a good game while he was on.
I watched and saw it as a fairly bog standard pre season match. Defensively we got caught out a few times attempting to push out and play offside and ultimately that is where their goal came from. Kaboul and Vert looked like they need games together because the gap between them was often too big. We also looked far more solid when Ekotto was at left back and not Bassong. Sigurdsson missed a fairly decent chance but put a cracking cross in for our goal. He looked no worse than anyone else. Townsend showed flashes starting on the right.
No, but I'd like to know why you think he played! He scored in the Spurs XI game against Kingstonian and then went to Como with the rest of the academy players.
"Pre-season games are about fitness and training. Anyone who seeks to gauge form for the new season might be better served reading tea leaves" and of course LDL you are right., Form can only be gauged by results., as we are talking here about the first pre-season game of the season, It would be pretty foolish of any body to try to gauge form from it.,
