It may have gone unnoticed by many, but the games have started two days ahead of the opening ceremony, with the start of the Football competition. Team GB's women's team are currently playing New Zealand at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium. Thought a thread actually about football might be a welcome distraction in the close season!
the game is zzzzzzzzz. The broadcasting is awful, you cant record the olympic channels, the sound is out of sync, the sound is supposed to be 5.1 but is hollow and tinny, the dog is huge and overlaps the score. Even ITV werent that bad!
When are the first men's games? I thought they couldn't have Olympic games before the opening ceremony, which is supposed to open the games?!
Women's football is ****. Olympics football is pointless. Women's Olympics football is **** and pointless.
Apart from obvious lack of strength and pace I still don't get why women's football is so shìt. Rubbish passing and technique has nothing to do with physical strength, no excuses. Brazil vs Cameroon on now, shame they've wrecked the Cameroon badge on the shirt.
They can't even give the tickets away for the women's games, my daughter got some but gave them away (England v Brazil), I'd rather watch paint dry (which I've been doing for the last couple of days)...
"The North Korean women's football team has refused to start an Olympic Games match at Hampden Park in Glasgow because of a dispute over the wrong flag being displayed, the Associated Press reports. A South Korean flag was reportedly displayed on a screen before kick-off. They are due to face Columbia." Shame on the organisers and on ITV who can't spell Colombia.
I see Gareth Bale, who pulled out of the GB squad "injured" played and scored for spurs in the U.S yesterday.if the players cant be bothered why should we?
Goalkeeping, it is beyond awful. Its not even a mens sunday league level. Loads goals are howlers. eg GBs goal and Frances 2nd for example. There were probably 2-4 other awful goals in the other matches. Womens games should have been played at Swansea, QPR, Doncaster etc. Another crap goal in the NK game, the scorer knew nothing about it as the defender kicked it into her knee and it flew into the net.
North Korea vs Colombia isn't as bad as might be expected thanks to the Koreans playing at a very high tempo for the women's game. Korea one up at the break.
Did any of you see Portia Modise's goal versus Sweden (women can play football!!).....what I'd give for a QPR goal like that.....................oops isn't it a bit like Michael Robinson's goal versus Chlesh**e in 1986..well not really but it did give me a chance to mention Michael Robisons goal against Chelsh**e
I think women perhaps need to find their own way of playing football and even maybe change the rules to suit them more.
