Swansea have now released a statement regarding Joe Allen and the transfer speculation.

Sounds like we have annoyed Swansea slightly with the approach. Will be interesting to see if we continue to go for Allen.

At the end of the day if we are going to bid for him then so be it. Every club gets annoyed at the prospect of their players going elsewhere.

I don't see us doing anything wrong, I just wish we would get on with it.

Well in fairness, Rodgers should honor the gentleman's agreement, or not bothered entering into it in the first place.

Swansea were making noises that he would be available though. There have been quotes from Laudrup but again all press nonsense and probably taken out of context. However gentlemans agreement my arse, if he really wants Allen then make an approach if they don't want to sell then say no.

Well the statement loosely translates as: Pay £15M or piss off.

Fair play they are standing there ground till they get the 15M. Have to respect that, if we want him we need to stump up the cash or move on!

Yea, lets just pay it and move on. No point losing the player for the sake of a couple of million.

well elts see what happens... let me promise one thing... (even though its my in my power to promise anyhint, just a figure of speech to show my conviction) I PROMISE you west ham have not got two shillings to rub together and gold and sullivan are tow of the biggest, most corrupt spivs on the planet.

GOld and sullivan are only in west ham for the olympic stadium, they thought west ham had it and still hope so, once west hma are i nthere they will sel lthe club to some rich arab to make a killing... they are NOT going to spend 18mil on anyone.

Spivs out to make a reputation off our woes. rotten, hate them..... <laugh>

anyway...... joe allen, i'm not pushed really. i am wanting to watch tonight and a few more games up to say day one of the season and really see which of our players can cut it cos really there are a few guys in there that are looking like they might just suprise.

I don't quite get this gentlemans agreement. Rodgers can't make a move for any Swansea players unless it's in Swansea's best interest to sell. Surely that is how all transfers work for players under contract though? If Swansea didn't want to sell anyone to us why don't they just say no rather than write this agreement into a contract (which seems to be ignored anyway). If they say no, we can't have them, it's as simple as that.

Back to Allen, I'm not too fussed. I'd rather we looked abroad as I reckon you could pick up a spanish midfielder from a lower league team with the same skills as Allen (play short simple passes and keep the ball moving) for about £5mil. That is what all Spanish players do, yet over here it seems to be a rareity and as such means any British player than can do it gets the good old English tax added onto their value.

Don't we have a young Spanish player already that looks more than capable of doing that job. Allen is a good player and I would be happy if we got him but reckon Suso could fill that position in the Europa league/league cup games if given the opportunity.

Do we really need Allen? We've got Aquilani back, Gerrard can play in that space, Lucas is coming back which strengthens up passing in that area and with the type of form that Suso and Shelvey are showing pre-season, surely there's enough options there without spending 15m on another one.

That's a bit over the top saying he's the Welsh Xavi, or even a young Alonso. From what I've seen he's good, and has potential but he's certainly not worth the 15m now, and I think we've overspent on "potential," don't you?

As for Gerrard being injury prone, he is in advanced positions, but the position we're talking about means a lot less physicality. Aquilani is said to be a bit lightweight because he looks it and is Italian, but from the short time he had with us he didn't show he was lightweight at all, Silva looks lightweight.

Huw jenkins is pissed off with rodgers, so if you want him you will be expected to pay between 15 and 20 million for his services, rodgers is not as honourable as he likes to make out, but also expect swansea to talk Allen out of a move to merseyside our chairman can br very persuasive.
