IMO he should be suspended by the FA unitl the olympics is over... seriously though... bar suarez we got off very lightly.... the reality is team GB are going to be mullered. bale is just the next giggs which is ironic and its only wales that suffer from the big time charlie attitude.
I look at GB and distinctly underwhelmed, there are some players I've never heard of (Marvin Sordell?), some players I've heard of but who are yet to make an impression at club level and Giggs who lets face it, is past it. I then look at Spain, Brazil and Uruguay and think that these squads could be the basis of their future. We in GB dont seem to get that the Olympics is a great chance to build for the next two or three major tournaments.
If you have honestly never heard of him, I recommend following football, rather than just watching games on Sky at the weekend.
There is a noticeable gap in quality between the two. More importantly, this Brazil side has had the Olympics ear-marked as a stepping stone to 2014 for years. Uruguay see it as hugely important as a final hurrah for their current side. Argentina always use it to progress. That Brazil side has spent the best part of two years together and goes to the Olympics as a team. 'Team' GB on the other hand is a tourist attraction, a ticket seller.
Why should I follow teams like Watford, I have no interest in them. They are not my team nor do I live near any Watford fans (I am aware that he now plays for Bolton, thanks to Wiki) I follow Liverpool as they are the team I support, I follow the Prem cause that is the league my team plays in and I also hear alot about the Sheffield teams due to the fact I have to work with a lot of United and Weds fans. I'm sure you know nothing about Accrington Stanley or Rotherham United and why should you. If Sordell was truly the future of English Football then I'm sure he'd have gotten more attention from the media and Prem clubs before now My point was that the GB team seems to have been picked at random, some players picked on reputation, some players picked cause they played for the U-21s with Pearce and some just cause they are available. Spain, Brazil and Uruguay seem to have been picked with the design to win the Gold
Team GB's a joke, it doesn't represent half of the nations that comprise Britain which is totally missing the point of us having a one off British team to enter for the Olympics. Pearce is a joke too and messing the whole thing up by playing "how many left backs can I put on the field at any one time?". As for Bale, I believe he spoke last season about how he was looking forward to it and wanted to be a part of it, I can't see him pulling a sicky. He was injured when the squad was picked and was unable to play last week so would've missed the friendly so taking him would've been gambling on his fitness which you can't do in an 18 man squad, as Pearce has said. Walker also wasn't passed fit for the tournament but played against LA Galaxy this morning, so why wasn't he picked on? Oh yeah because he aggravated the injury proving the point about only taking fully fit players
It is even lower on my scale of interest, than the Euros were. I think I heard Bellers was in the team, and that was about it. If all the other countries take it seriously, then Saurez is probably getting some good training in, and will not be too far off when he re-joins us. Other than that, won't be watching, won't be caring.
I'm not really that interested, I just hope our lads don't get injured if Gareth Giggs..sorry Bale doesn't want to play then so be it.
I think we, as a nation, should take this competition more seriously. There are some top players in this tournament including Suarez, Mata, Martinez, Jordi Alba. This is a great platform for u23 to shine and give them experience of playing international football, and in big stadiums and in front of big crowds ...
Looks like he aggrevated it again last night along with VDV, seriously what is going on with his body?
two debates going on here. as i see it; 1. team GB is indeed a joke and would not even exist if not for london hosting. therefore we can all see why other countries are using it as a springboard for youth and ENGLAND are not. ENGLAND are not team GB or should not be. there are no scots in there for this reason as the SFA wanted to retain their voting rights and not be attacked by fifa over it. 2. Bale not going. its perfectly clear having seen bale play 76mins he could have gone to the olympics. using pearce's idiotic words licking his hole after he pulled out doesn't excuse him not going... its just that nobody cares and bale will neverplay any high level international football now... bale didn't go others did... its not actually a big deal anyway
GB are at an immediate disadvantage anyway. Brazil can, and generally have, play their Olympic squad for several games leading up to the games, and then use the games as a platform into 2014. Same with other single nation teams, should they wish. GB, for obvious reasons, can't.
1. Not true, the SFA had no ability to stop players being called up for it. Bannan was amongst the players in the preliminary 35, I believe. The SFA's concerns, like the Welsh, were all about a longterm existence of a team GB but they had to kick up a stink from the off to make sure it never became discussed seriously. 2. He could have gone to the Olympics but he has suffered with back problems over the past 18 months and was ruled out on the advice of doctors. You think because he was able to play in a preseason friendly he was also able to go to the Olympics football which starts tomorrow? It's not that simple and even if he was able to play you're all taking a cynical view that the player or club lied rather than the doctor being a week or two out with his estimated time out.
Won't win fook all with GB either Biggest embarrassment was not picking Beckham, who thought that was a good idea?
