Completely correct BelfastBlue hence source quoted. Why do you see a problem or have interests elsewhere? All I ask is all members on here are recognised for their contributions. I had something lifted from my own personal twitter account the other day, not a single mention (no rules broken) but I always encourage supplying the source.
I think he would be a good player, yeah he has been in trouble but he is a good player and as long as he lets the football speak for him we will be OK.
Has anyone mentioned after the car accident Hughes and his fellow passenger left the scene before handing himself in the next day? Anyway, what ever he has done in the past do we really want to be signing a 36 year old striker??
yes gfc0000 thats correct, hughes 28 at the time, did a runner from the scene of the accident. it's one thing to cause the accident, but to leave the scene and of the age he was....no question he was gutless...that other family are stuck with that everyday of there life now ! use to take an interest in him when he was at west brom scoring so many goals, but since that happened i've disliked the guy and what he' about and don't intend changing either just because he may walk into priestfield and put on a gills shirt....no thankyou !!!
More...http://www.coventrycity-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/lee_hughes_not_joining_nuneaton_750429/index.shtml? and 1 hour ago... Mike Keegan ‏@mikekeeganmen #oafc fans - understand talks have taken place with Lee Hughes but his return is 'very unlikely'. Wages thought to be main stumbling block.
didn't know nuneaton fc were in division 1 of pro football hoadie...get a grip...are you on the same planet or what
Let's not ofrget that there isn't really a huge financial gap between the lower divisions, so just because Oldham are higher in the football pryamid doesn't mean they have significantly more funds
Really don't want to see Lee Hughes signing for us. I just can't see myself getting any pleasure or excitement from seeing him score in a Gills shirt. Would it be possible to get a season ticket refund on these grounds?
His trial for the assault charge starts on 13th August in Croydon! Wouldn't offer him a deal anyway as with his previous he may well end up behind bars again?
i know theres a lot going on outside of football in terms of this signing but remember allen has managed the guy before and doesnt seem the sort to sign a player unless he knew he'd get 100% commitment and they will be well behaved and diciplined
So that is - 1 dangerous driving conviction and prison time 1 assault conviction 1 further upcoming assault case.... Yeh, lets leave him.
If he is on trial again then that is a no from me, he would be a problem for the club which we don't need.
No I think the assault case referred to in the Mail article was the one we discussed before. He was charged and found guilty in May, hence my confusion earlier
He pleaded not guilty in May, the report says set to stand trial in august! Incident happened in december, charged in January, in court in may, trial in august!
Tbh I don't think that his background with the law would be a stumbling block in his signing. We must not forget that we used to a certain Marlon King on our books and he was a bit a dodgy. I would however rather we not sign Hughes. I think giving Dean Morgan would be a better option as he can play as a striker if needed. Touch wood that we don't suffer any injuries up top but if was needed I would prefer us to go for a 4-4-1-1 formation and bring Bradley Dack into the team as the attacking midfield/1st striker. He sounds to be an absolute amazing talent and I would much prefer him to be brought into the team.
I was interested to read what John Knee said about the assault case on Gills Connect message board. Its worth reading and maybe throw a light on what peoples perception of what the case was about. I certainly didn't know. I assumed that he had attacked a woman and all but raped her, but that appears not to be the case and it was just high jinks that in today's climate lands you in court.
