Its on the Sky Sports ticker that we have approached Notts County for striker Lee Hughes! Not sure what to think on this one. Good goal scoring record though!

Jury will certainly be out if it happens - but I think we've had this discussion before with regards to Luke McCormick joining Swindon. These people have sinned but in my opinion they don't deserve to have it held against them forever. If Lee can still do a job then he has every right to.

Would be happy with Him he is prolific and has scored goals everywhere he has gone , although doubt he will come to us . UTG . Have we not got enough strikers .

brb funny quotes from the Notts lads re MA address book.

Looks a good striker, life outside football is another issue and as already said by Tom tom this caused much debate and difference of opinion last time in regards to Luke McCormick.

    UTG!!

This would be quite a coup for the club, although no doubt a few fans will bang on about his past

Got a feeling, and this is nothing but theory.

Most fans don't feel we need a striker above signings for our back line.

I reckon MA doesn't rate Kedwell, hence the rumours and apporaches for so many strikers.
I would be suprised to see Kedwell start next season.

There seems to be a very mixed and strong reaction from Gills fans on twitter, so ALL Lee Hughes threads will be merged in to this one if they should appear.

I will also explain my thoughts on this. As most of you know I do not follow the Premiership. Also I have a massive dislike of most media therefore do not read newspapers. However, I have decided to have a brief run through such articles to enable me to gage the reason of strong opinion. Completely at random (google search) and with no preference to any source, I read the articles below. I have attempted to use judgement and place them in the following order deliberately purely for the purpose of any mentioned timings or dates...

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...t-while-on-FA-Cup-duty-with-Notts-County.html

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo.../Lee-Hughes-pleads-guilty-sexual-assault.html

As the situation CURRENTLY stands I will will refrain from further comment.

Also, I do hope we do not sign him.

I don't want to get into an arguement with my fellow 606ers all of whom have varied and honest opinions which I respect but personally I would struggle to go to Gillingham games if we had a player like him at the club.

I know he has paid his debt in the eyes of the law for the driving offence but to then come out of prison and be arrested for sexual assault (only charged with assault) makes him a very unsavoury character in my eyes.

To live well and earn the money he does in the public eye means that you have to uphold certain standards which are above that of regular folk.

If we sign the man then I shall not be attending Gillingham games.

you say we have enough strikers but we dont know ma's plans for half of them, miller and strevens etc he could see as wingers and therefore we still only have birchall and kedwell up front. personally i think one more option makes sense, especially someone of the hughes , given the lack of experienced striking options and the fact that birchall may still be a couple of months away from full potential and playing 90mins as all has been said is they are pleased with his progress!!

as for the other stuff im sure it will cause a divide amoungst the fans untill he bangs in 10 goals before christmas :p

He can bang in all the goals he wants!

In my eyes it comes down to a moral choice and I will not put my hand in my pocket and spend money which will pay his wages.

People deserve a second chance, the car incident happened, he ran but he did hand himself in the next day. In prison he worked on himself by all accounts and met with members of the victims family to try to bring about some closure.

Had that man come out of prison and returned to football he would of had respect from me, a changed character who is using his second chance for the best. He spoke about doing voluntary community work to continue making ammends even after leaving prison and wanted to be given a chance. To then be charged with assault (details are fuzzy of what happened exactly although it is clear there were sexual elements to the charge) makes the man pond scum. He threw away his chance and deserves nothing.

I am in 2 minds on this one.

Hes a criminal. ok drink driving and he made a huge mistake and has paid his time. I dont agree with what he did and I cant forget that but then to go and get done for assault. I dont want someone like that representing the club,

On the other hand he can score a lot of goals especially at our level and would prob be the top scorer in the league.

To be fair I wouldnt mind if comes and does a job for us or stays away. I wont be a fan of his but i would be greatful for the goals.

Chaps I would just like to remind you that the assault charge is still an ongoing investigation and this is an public forum, therefore anything said here could be subject to legal investigation i.e. libel (or is it slander) action. So just be careful what you say

I think not, for the charge I refer to he was found guilty of and fined for in May of this year.

£500 for common assault, the sexual assault charge was dropped but the assault itself still held sexual connotations, just not enough to find him guilty on as a 'sexual assault'

I thought it was going to court next month but I may be behind on the story...

Either way I also think it is wise to remember that this is a public forum

Of course, you are correct, apologies if that previous post came over 'cocky'. It was not my intention.

All I have mentioned (and others) are the publically reported facts. Lets keep it that was as BSG is 100% on the money.
