I know what Josh means, with Beckford on the pitch he could be selfish for 85 minutes and pop up at the end and snatch you a late goal. He offers something different with his pace and opposition defenders will play a different game against him in fear of that pace. As for being an affordable option, granted his wages might prove a problem but a fee of £2M shouldn't. If with new owners around the corner we can offer £1M for the likes of Maynard and around £700K for Peltier I am sure we could go to £2M - I would even sacrifice McCormack if it meant a return for Bekford. YES he does go missing and he won't work his socks off for the team but that isn't part of his game, never has been and I guess by now never will be.
Unbelievable. McCormack scores goals and never stops running. He's a technically gifted player and is part of a team. Yet some Leeds fans wish for the return of ex players as if they were "Gods" before. Beckford is lazy, he does drift in and out of games and he's not the team player most teams (including Leeds) need. He's been and he's gone, let's move on.
Sorry for having an opinion Bob - McCormack doesn't score as many goals over a season as Beckford and he has had one good season for us. Warnock has stated himself that the team can only play one way and one style with McCormack in the team, get used to life without him Bob because he won't be around for long. That was your reply to signing Gray an ex Leeds player - He's been and he's gone, let's move on.
McCormack is sheer class, although I'd welcome Beckford back it wouldn't be at the expense of Ross. He's invaluable to us.
Beckford is a bit like Bates for fans. If the team is winning both are tolerable. When the team is not doing well on the pitch they are both insufferable. Again, I do feel Beckford was poorly treated but after he was gone we had multiple scoring threats and I think the team played better.
After the contract offer to Gray clearly as a squad player and Varney, having, Somma, Becchio and McCormack already on the books and a £1M bid turned down for Maynard I feel McCormacks days are numbered. I can't see Warnock having the luxury of six strikers to choose from. I would have preferred to keep McCormack and not offer either Varney or Gray a contract but their additions and the failed £1M bid spell only one thing for me... Hence my original comment that IF Warnock feels the need to sign a new striker I would prefer Beckford to Maynard. Also Warnocks comments: "We need a couple of excellent ones. We have to wheel and deal in that area. I think we have the nucleus, we have fringe players as well, it's just the icing on the cake now."
