If we didn't sign Debuchy... Who would you want to see come through the door as a suitable plan B?

Stick with what we've got? I think if we don't get him, we won't go for anyone else. Or get an LB and put Santon RB.

This is why we should keep Simmo.

We need to be sure of depth before we let anyone go.

Pretty sensible thinking. If we can't get what/who we want it's no good taking somebody on the spur of the moment. Use what we've got until another target becomes available.

I would love Debuchy to sign for us don't get me wrong, but it still makes more sense to shift Santon to RB, with Tavernier and Perch as cover.

Buy a new LB, Cissokho? and Santon and Perch can still cover LB if absolutely necessary.

Move on Simpson for 2-3 million (Makes sense to move him on rather than him going for nowt when the little pratt runs down his contract) and I still think we have enough cover to be alright, I have lots of faith in Perch and Tavernier is looking a good prospect.

Add a CB to that Rhys Williams for me, and I think we would be looking alright with Colo, Saylor, Williams and Williamson as our CB quadruple.

On top of that I would ideally want a more experienced CM as cover for Cabaye or Guthrie, but its not absolutely necessary because we have some great prospects coming through, (Bigi and Abeid)

If we keep Ba and Cisse I would like another good striker to rotate with them, and indeed cover them for any upcoming ACON tournaments. I would also like to see a young prospect striker brought in aswell, but that would probably be asking a lot.

Agree, i think it's LB where we are weaker.
RB options = Simmo / Santon / Tav / Raylor / Perch - all decent options
LB options = same as above, but all on their less favoured foot and then maybe Ferguson or Jonas out of position

Get a good LB, centre back cover and one attacking/creative player and I'll be delighted.

I think Tav is a good prospect, Perch would be satisfactory cover, but he is also relied upon for cover in other places, and It only takes a couple of injuries for us to regret letting anyone go.

I don't see how you can call Simmo a prat. Just because he's not accepted the clubs offer, doesn't mean he's a prat, sometimes it's not that simple.

Is Ba a **** for taking ages to sign a new deal or for not signing a new one at all?

I don't see how Simmo has done worse than Ba. We just love Ba more because he's scored goals.

Simmo works just as hard, he's just not as good.

Whether or not Simpson is a prat or not my point still stands, if he doesn't want to sign a contract then we need to shift him on because the longer we wait the less we will get for him, a club isn't going to pay 3 million for a player they can get on a bosman 6 months later are they?

I think hes a prat because of things he says on twitter, his general attitude of clearly thinking hes a superstar when hes nowhere near, and the fact he thinks he is good enough to be on the same money that Cabaye, Tiote, Ba, Cisse are on, which IMO is the reason hes turned the contract down.

Ba isn't a **** at all because he still has 2 years left to run on his contract so it makes no difference to how much money we can receive from him, if it were this time next year then I might say the same about his actions.

In a way I agree, but put yourself in his shoes for a sec, Pardew is trying to sign a better right back than you, which is pretty much saying to Simmo that Pard's doesn't think he's good enough to be first choice at this level, or he desires someone better.

Simmo will still get games, but all I gather from Simpson, is that he wants to play frequent first team football, and be high in the pecking order, and to be honest, based on last season, he's not an amazing player, but quite a few clubs would have him, offer him the same or better wages, plus gaurunteed first team footy.

I think he just wants to feels more significant, and the fans have hardly made him feel appreciated. The sensible fans appreciate his work, but he's gotten a lot of undeserved ****.

Plenty of times after a **** team performance, people will fire on Simmo and Williamson and target them for abuse. It's quite ridiculous.

Simmo did a good job for most of his games, and people forget that for most of the season, he had Obertan or Hatem in front of him, so he had little support, where as all our LB options had Jonas and Colo around them.

Simmo had to defend the entire right side by himself plus offer an attacking, overlapping option.

I personally don't blame Simpson for not signing straight away.

I don't think he thinks he's a superstar, I think he wonders why the **** he should stay when a lot of the fans don't appreciate the work he's done, but they're quick enough to **** over our strikers, and call them heros when they pop up with a moment of quality, even if they don't perform well over a game.

Left back. Who is the big question though? The only name I could offer up was a really attacking one I watched for Villareal last season Joan Oriol. Very quick and obviously they've been relegated after an injury crisis we would have been proud of!
