I know this is a case of stating the bleedin' obvious but it's a ridiculous situation. If memory serves me correct, they had gone into administration and THEN signed Kitson, Lawrence and worse still priced us out of a move for Norris. How did the league not stand up at that point and say something? It's not hindsight, every fan at the time nwas baffled with how theyw ere doing it.
I know, and agreed with your point, problem is on a message board tone can not be conveyed when responding to a post so it can come across sarcastic or argumentative sometimes....I agree completely that it's **** on the fans and that they are not to blame, I personally feel that most of the vitriol is directed towards the club and not the fans as a result of this and that in this case it is more important to see past the fans' pain and send out a clear message to all other clubs, admin once is forgivable, there are relevant and significant punishments for doing so, but twice, and the way in which Pompey did it is unforgivable and must be dealt with in a draconian way.
how about a 'law' saying that these poor porr players are not preferencial creditors anymore? Gordon Taylor has plenty to answer for in my book!!!
It's sad to see any club go bust, and it's really not fair on the fans. Bad owner after bad owner and squad after squad of overpaid players. However, I agree with bum_chinned_crab; they priced us out of a move for David Norris despite being in a worse position financially, and that says it all! That they spent so much on two awful seasons in the Championship, instead of graciously accepting the inevitable (i.e. League One), is ridiculous.
it's my opinion that between them, Murdoch and Taylor, have well and truly screwed our National game!
no the Sky and the PFA has caused concerted HMRC 'interest'. Too much money being 'stolen' as a salary by average foreign players. Too many cucumber pickers and illegally operating organisations in our game now for the comfort of anyone, let alone the HMRC.
Harry's out of work with a few quid spare why doesn't he get a few mates to chip in and buy Pompey. He was after all a bit responsible for the chaos.
This was mentioned in the last Pompey thread about a week ago, the person said that if they go bust they just declare themselves as having no money!
He was a lot responsible. He likes to plead ignorance and say he was just the manager and had no idea what the players were earning. If it didn't cross his mind just a little bit how a club that had the smallest ground in the league could afford the wages of the likes of James, Johnson, Campbell, Defoe, Kanu, Distin, Muntari, Lauren, Krancjar, Mendes, Diop, Nugent, etc on top of the millions they paid in transfer fees then he's guilty of immense ignorance at least. Just had a look at Pompey's 16 for the Cup Final in 2008: David James - 1.2m [30k] Glen Johnson - 4m [20k] Sol Campbell - Free [50k] Sylvain Distin - Free [25k] Hermann Hreiðarsson - Free [15k] Lassana Diarra - 5.5m [20k] John Utaka - 7m [35k] Pedro Mendes - 7.5m (inc. Paramot & Sean Davis) [20k] Niko Kranjčar - 3.5m [20k] Sulley Muntari - 7.1m [25k] Nwankwo Kanu - Free [20k] Jamie Ashdown - Free [10k] Noé Pamarot - Inc. [15k] Papa Bouba Diop - 3.5m [25k] Milan Baroš - Loan [25k] David Nugent - 6m [20k] I make that £45m in transfer fees. I've estimated the wages, and been generous in some places I think, and I make that £19.6m a year. And that's only for 16 players.
