Exactly - it's like we're making bad decisions again and again (starting from the decision to sack Rafa!). I agree, we had a chance to secure decent quality for the money we spent and we blew it. I am kinda angry at Kenny and DC for it.
I agree with this, and it's not just because I know his family. But I still think we can get him for cheaper than £15m though.
Last January we needed someone to put the ball in the net, Moussa Sow comes out and says that he would love to sign for us if given the chance ( and JC was there and doing well so could have done something). 10 mil euros to fenerbache where he is now banging them in. Pace, power, poacher, and can create on his own. We could now have Sow, Carroll, and Suarez and I would be really happy with those 3 tbh. Different styles and different ways to attack.
There are always going to be different opinions and I don't want us overspending but when it comes to Allen I think he fits perfectly in the team and that he is just what we need.
Apparently LFC are keen to do a deal for £10m which I would be happy with. Same applies to Dempsey - LFC want him for about £5m and Fulham want about £10m. We could potentially spend £15m - £25m on two decent footballers ...
My uncle played Rugby with his dad and he said that an offer was agreed around that much but it could go up more with other things he didn't know about. I sent Bluff a PM about it...ask him. By the way...Walcott is in contract talks...looks like that story was agent talk after all.
As already said, not for 15 million and I don't know enough about him that 10 million is a good price either. I will try to watch him in the GB side but didn't see much at all in the game against Brazil.
Yep. Should've just got someone like Seb Larson for a few million, a much more complete player than Downing. What's done is done and our owners aren't prepared to take a huge risk like last season. We can talk about net spend all we want but at the end of the day we had £50 million quid in the bank for Torres and it was wasted. It wasn't FSG's money but it was there asset that was sold to get this money which was then spent on nothing much. This is why I think the likes of Cole and Aquilani will be staying with us for the season because they can fit in to BR's plans and he can not go out and spend £30m to get replacements for these 2. Our squad at present isn't actually that bad at all - it needs more quality 100%, but we will still be able to compete for 4th place next season. I mean jesus how bad were we last season and still had a chance until about 8 games to go.
That's quite encouraging! £10m would be a good deal for him. Here is a good article/analysis on the lad: http://liverpoolscout.com/2012/07/24/joe-allen-statistically-compared-to-rivals/
Dempsey is just not worth the money so I have a completley different view here. I feel we need Allen and that he fits in where as I don't really feel that we need Dempsey.
Agree with everything you said. As much as I would like Cole and Aqua in the squad, I can see them leaving as they are a big earners. BR is looking to get rid of expendable assets and these two would save a lot of money. Sad times when I'm talking about saving money than quality players
I do agree with this, just a shame the different level we could be out if we were, not a bit more shrewd, but looked around a bit more. I still think we will be up there and at times possibly in 3-4 but don't think we will have the quality to sustain it and eventually end up 5-7. I am glad that we got that Cup monkey off our back though ( wish it was the FA though).
I'd be alright with Cole going, but Aqua can stay. He played well (again) the other day in the system and with a little confidence from the manager he could have a good season and feel differently about playing for this club.
