Every three seconds you chaps are snapping up some wonderkid or another for £30 million quid... Either this is the most elaborate drug running operation, or you'll be quite the force next season!

I have a few questions, though:

    1. Financial Fair Play rules kicks in soon, have you been storing some left over lolly for the past few seasons ready for the re-build, are you now a fully fledged worldwide brand who can spend billions and still be fine, or will Abramovich's "brother" be sponsoring your stadium for almost precisely the amount you're buying all these sexy new players for? <whistle>

    2. Let's be Frank... Does Lampard have a serious first-team role at your club next year, or will he be whinging on the bench every week (think carefully, this has very very important fantasy football ramifications)?

    3. I have never heard of some of these players, were you aware of them before you were linked to them? Are they worth the out-lay?

    4. Does this mean we (Newcastle) won't be finishing fifth again next season? <wah>

Feel free to answer or ignore any of the above questions. Also, I won't be wussing out and offering you luck next season to get a positive response to the thread... WE need the luck... You've got Hazard, and Oscar, and all kinds of -ars rolling out of your arse. You'll be fine without the luck!

I will bid you good day though, it's only polite.

FFP is a clever con to keep people quiet over big spenders. With all the money from tv and trophies the EPL won't be affected. It's teams like PSG that need to worry.

Lampard is still class, and we look a lot more assured with him in the side so yes.

I play FIFA so yes. <laugh>

    There's always hope mate.

FFP will do exactly the opposite of which it is intended. It will make the big clubs bigger and the small clubs smaller, which is why all the big clubs have said they agree with it.
Another FIFA/ EUFA con on the highest order.

  4. FFP will only work if the FA grow a pair and meet the Russian and the Arab head-on. They are the only ones likely to fall foul of the rules, as far as I can make out.

Will the FA grow a pair and impose stringent sanctions to punish £ity and Chelsea for to continuing to buy glory?

    I doubt it.

Why are we likely to fall foul of the rules?

  6. Are you now paying for the running of your club completely from revenues?

I can hear the Russian now, telling the FA chairman, "if it wasn't for those pesky running costs, I'd have gotten away with it!"

FFP is possibly the greatest mirage out there. There is this big myth from clubs of Arsenal, United and Spurs in particular as well as other PL clubs that FFP is going to come in and stop big bad Chelsea and City from spending any money and then they will swoop in and claim top 4 spots whilst Chelsea and City begin to slide down the table.

No. That isn't the case at all once you have your foot in the door FFP becomes beneficial. As its been pointed out every one of the G4 agreed to it? Do people honestly believe people like RA would be stupid enough to push for FFP if it was detrimental to him and the club? The fact is:

    - FFP only serves to keep the same cartel of clubs at the top. It's just to keep the likes of Bayern, Real, Barca, United protected from City, Chelsea and Anzhi. They fear that if they lose the likes of Bayern, Barca viewing figures will drop and they will push for a breakaway league. Let's be honest no matter how much money Anzhi have they will never have the worldwide appeal of those other clubs, same with Malaga and even PSG.

    - There are more holes in FFP than in Pebble Beach. FFP prohibits excess cash being pumped on by owners, that's not to say sponsors or someone else can't. Why do you think Chelses have struck deals with Audi, Sauber and Delta? Roman doesn't have to dip into his own pocket he can use the sponsors thus making the club more self-sustainable.

    - UEFA aren't counting all losses, they will write off costs for youth development, player contracts before Oct 2010 erc

    - Bans wont happen and even if they do they won't be immediate. But going back to the first point there are some huge clubs that as it stands won't comply for FFP. If they rock the boat then those clubs will threaten to pull out and form there own league without UEFA. Imagine that? Their most prized possession gone. Let's be honest nobody will bat an eyelid if Spurs or even City don't make CL. But if Arsenal, Chelsea or worse United, Real, Barca and Bayern weren't in it that would send shock waves throughout Europe. It sure as hell did when Liverpool dropped out hence why they've gone from Adidas to Warrior. If they impose it they will only issue fines which most clubs will take on the chin

There is also this big myth that Chelsea will fail to comply. As it stands we should be fine, the last financial year if you discount player depreciation losses we comfortably comply for FFP.

Our losses will decline and our revenues will only get larger with PL and sponsorship deals. People that believe we will be done for are screwed. In fact it only further consolidates our position and ensures we will never drop out.nif we increase our stadium capacity by even 4,000. We will be bringing in a higher revenue than any other club in England bar United

Very eloquently put, but in my opinion it's just the current bar banter expressed in more lengthy terms. I have yet to see any economist so resolutely rubber-stamp these suggestions, and I very much doubt the line that has been adopted generally (and in your post) is based on serious consideration of the rule booklet which I believe exceeds 100 pages of technical mumbo-jumbo. I don't doubt that it can justify and strengthen current positions, but everyone who erroneously spouts this as fact fails to consider that football is about the 11 on the pitch, not merely how much money people make. The top clubs will of course be able to cherry-pick the best from those below them due to superior wage benefits, but at a cost, while those now restricted lower clubs may continue to hone squads with actually less interference. This is because the lower clubs shall ALL be limited in a similar manner, and there will be fewer clubs capable of offering the higher wages. This could, in theory, make a very competitive middle range and this has ramifications for the top of the league as well. Of course this is conjecture also, but it's as ill informed as any other opinion of how things will shake out. One of the most plausible stipulations is that it is the average punter who will be hit hardest, because rising ST costs could eventually (if not rapidly) offer the only other potential revenue improvement.

All we know for absolute certain is that City and Chelsea, among others, have been cautiously warned in some form or another. Specifically about wages, if I've read it right. I would think the Champions League win has dramatically resolved some of the underlying issues UEFA may have had about Chelsea, though, with regards revenue.

Based on my subjective analysis, I'd say your thoughts are a bit extreme, but we'll see soon enough <ok>

ANd 2011/12 moreso with our CL revenue. Our revenue will be up to 300m euro for 11/12. While SPurs' revenue will be down from 180m euro (10/11) to 150m euro with no CL revenue for 11/12. How they can afford to keep Bale and Modric on big wages without CL football defies the accountants and FFP.

Chelsea revenue for 12/13 will be double that of Spurs again - winning CL is said to be worth £100m in the short term. Everyone wants a piece of the top club in Europe.

  15. In the "short term," yes, but you won't be able to ride the crest of that particular wave forever. At some point, your revenues will return to what they were, but you'll still have your running costs, including your very high wages.

How long do you reckon you can ride that crest for? Two seasons, max, I reckon. After that, you have a lot of players to replace. How are you going to afford to replace the likes of Terry, Cole, Cech, and Lampard without some serious investment?

    Cech - Thibaut Courtois
    Cole - Bertrand
Lampard - Oscar can play in the pivot role
Terry - We already have a fair few CB's - Ivan, Luiz, Cahill

It will be an interesting season for Chelsea, looks like it will be Lampard's swansong.

Regarding FFP, without having done any analysis of published texts, I'm inclined to agree with those who are saying an increase in income (particularly from TV) should mean that the implications are not what was expected when it was announced. Given that teams in the Chinese league are able to put down £200k a week for a player, FFP as it was envisaged would push the centre of world football east, providing money was the deciding factor in a players decision to join a club. For that reason it would be mad for the European leagues to try and impose a limit on spending when this is key to future growth. It's a laudable ideal.

  18. It'll be interesting to see how those players shape up, and if they can prove that they have what it takes to stay the distance with a team that has such high and demanding ambitions as CFC. if any of them don't fulfill their promise they'll have to be replaced with more experience and expensive options.

Which ever way you look at it, these are exciting times for both CFC and the competition for EPL domination.

Curtois is already an amazing keeper so thats not an issue. Just a case of getting him back when Cech is past it.

Bertrand has already proved to be a great replacement for Cole when needed so when the time comes im 100% sure he will fill in and do a great job

Lampard for me has been coming off the boil last season and i think he will just do a job this season. I dont personally think he will be too hard to replace and we have more than just Oscar who can replace him in my opinion (i know majority will disagree)

Terry in my opinion will be the hardest to replace just because of his on pitch presence and what he brings to the game/team. But lets be honest Cahill and Luiz proved themselves against Barca and im cconfident they can step up. Its just that presence i dont think can be replaced... It needs someone to be in the team year after year whos cemented in the core of the club. Thats what Terry is.

We have a lot of quality young players who are gonna step up over this season and next and produce a young team that can compete on all fronts across multiple seasons without costing huge amounts of money each season. The club can then carry on working on bringing young players through the club and into the first team which i think is what Chelsea is working towards.

Cant wait to see how these young players are gonna feature and shape CFC.

The problem is not relacing the likes of Lampard / Terry as they are now, but as they were when they were at the top of their games. Lampard and Drogba have been our 'go to' players for years and will be very difficult to replace. Maybe Oscar and Torres will be good enough, maybe they wont.
