I thought this was a football forum, so what's happened to the football chat - isn't it exciting that Newco will be playing in the third division ... or maybe not ... <doh>

Surely you can do better than that? If not, definitely don't give up your day job ... if you actually have one that is.

You seriously suggesting I charge your wife more for my services?

I have quite an interesting day job. Earning cash off your wife only pays for my phone as a wee extra<ok>

I guess then it's as I said, don't give up your day job - in fact you should hang on to it for dear life. I understand you may not get paid much for cleaning the toilets at Ipox, and even that job may be under threat now but I'm sure you'll find another to suit your level of intellectual prowess.

On the contrary my Iberian chum. Not that I find cleaning toilets below me, but after nearly a decade doing a degree followed by a PhD followed by paid research I feel that cleaning toilets would have been a waste of this education that was a result of the splendid education system in this country. I now feel I should use this to help charities by doing my small bit in developing treatments for cancer and so I do, earning greatly below what other jobs in industry offer for someone with my qualifications and experience. So in short, no, I won't give up the day job <ok>

That said, I could survive without £45 a month-or-so from your wife. So I might give up shagging yer wife <ok>

I never thought that wee t availed of the marvelous education available in Scotland. I didn't think his mother would let him attend
the schools that provided the first class education.
Wee t only got the job of toilet cleaning after the previous holder of that position had flooded the Ibrox and the Rankers had to cancel
a home game, a couple of seasons ago. What hurt them most was they had already paid the referee.
Wee t is said to be very reliable and appreciative of his job, his first since leaving school at 15, he is in ecstasy, every month when he
    gets cleaning the players toilet.

Much as I'd like to believe you, I find it difficult to do so - the level to which your gutter humour posts sink at times tends to belie that of the mind of a supposedly well-educated chap - particularly one who professes to work selflessly in such a humane field. Could it be that you are schizophrenic and in your delusions have created the persona of a saviour of some sort - a not uncommon fantasy in schizophrenia? Never fear, however, all is not lost - with the right treatment and support, you could lead a happy, fulfilling life ... perhaps you might find your job of cleaning those toilets at Ipox actually quite satisfying, without feeling the need to retreat into that hallucinatory world? :emoticon-0105-wink:

You ya wee bawbag, I think you're a bit jealous of the attention I give Psycho since you keep bringing this one up <whistle>

The three great interests in my life are sports gambling, astronomy (to a broader but lesser extent physics) and (mostly non fiction) literature - if you observe the posts I go heaviest into it tends to be on these subjects.

When we get a professional author posting on the board and we get onto the subjects of literature and politics I finally get a chance to try spar a bit, even if I am not very good at it - I recently tried the likes of the same here with Astronomy http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/156366-Conclusive-Proof-That-Aliens-Do-Not-Exist only to have nobody even question any of my points or to drift the thread into other philosophical considerations, which is quite annoying.

Some people are always turned on when it comes to their personality traits, or even interests - apart from maybe seeking humour in most scenarios I am not always turned on, but I do like to switch on the heavy stuff if I am given an appropriate opportunity to try my hand.

Ah, got to you at last Mick eh? Please don't ban me now ... but methinks thou doth protest too much. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Seriously though, I never set out to offend anyone in my posts and I have enjoyed reading your and Psycho's exchanges - makes a very pleasant change to read stuff that is interesting, thought-provoking at times and well written, compared to the garbage posted by some Newco posters ... but you surely can't really blame me for hamming up the old psychiatrist's couch obsession bit - I just couldn't resist it! Unfortunately, I didn't see your posts on the other topics ... otherwise I could have brought some of that material into my hamming up as well!

I got your first exchanges - and if I'm honest it had the probably-desired effect of at least making me a little self concious about trying to psychoanalyse my own character in public (I actually do this every now and again among peers, not so much on internet sports forums).

I'm sure it's quite obvious to almost everyone who follows Psycho around (like myself) that we all tend to up our written game a little in his presence. It's hard not to when someone who writes so well engages in conversation - to give it an 'up the ra' just doesn't suffice as a rational argument any more...

I suppose it may or may not make Psycho blush when he reads that someone would up their game, for any reason, in his presence. I'd try to make comparisons to my own profession where I have quite a high level of knowledge of sports gambling (I would hopefully, since it's what I've been paid to do for almost a decade).

When I'm back home and I walk into my local pub I'm greeted with the customary 'gis a tip?' as well as everyone listening and trying to respond at a similar level when I talk about my fancies and the logical reasoning behind how I got there. It therefore goes to say that someone who is a professional in their given profession may indeed be considered by those of lesser experience to be an expert - even if what they present really is just an educated opinion, it at least seems worthy of respect to people who don't usually get the opportunity to consider the subject in that kind of considered detail.

In saying this I will quote a phrase which I underlined in a recent book I read by Christopher Hitchens (around 75% of all literature I've read from Hitchens was after his death, why do people like myself seem to follow dead people more than they do the living?) and which I have recently already quoted: "You only find out what you ought to have known by pretending to know at least some of it already."

I don't think Mick was directing his opinions towards crackpots with the intellectual capacity of an amoeba so I would advise that your input in this matter is unwise because it contributes nothing except to demonstrate your lack of ability to communicate on the level that was earlier implied <ok>

Mick, I am sorry to say you have posted some shoite yesterday evening. Who were you trying to impress and why?
Listing your hobbies was the biggest joke. I am sorry Mick but I just could not help myself, I just hate when people get carried
away with themselves, are you falling in love with yourself all over again ?

A bit harsh sh. Taken at face value, what's wrong with anyone posting information about themselves? The way I see it is that Mick's interests might well open up the opportunity for reasoned, interesting and well-written discussion with others who may have similar interests and to be honest, anything is preferable to a lot of the one-line inarticulate garbage posted by some Newco fans ... and I'm not trying to impress Mick by the way! :emoticon-0105-wink:
