If John Stephenson was still on the staff, and Jimmy Russo still deciding how much money we can spend on players, Davies would probably be in our matchday squad tomorrow.

The one thing Forest said was that they wanted an iconic name. That is the one thing that Sean O'Driscoll isn't.

With the greatest of respect to both men's careers, I would argue that Sean Dyche is a bigger name in Nottingham just by having once been at their academy.

But he was a coach there last season so maybe the players wanted to have the guy back?

Don't know what they are complaining about - their away strip is still blue & they play half their games away from home. <whistle>

Maybe they could do away with shirts altogether and be like one of the players in the photo - full body tattoos. That would stop players changing clubs at the drop of a hat <laugh>

"Rangers are due to start their season on 28 July in the Ramsdens Cup away to Brechin City"

Sounds as if they might get a fish and chip supper. ;)

If Pompey do stop and a new company is formed will they be allowed to join the league at the same level like Rangers did not or will they go into the league many divisions down?

As things stand at the moment there could be the situation where they will disappear completely for at least one season. Chanrai has a bid to buy the club again, but says that it is conditional on removing the high wage earners. With one player on a reported amount of £36,000pw another on £20,000 pw they have a wage bill of £9m pa against Div 1 average of under £2m. So far the players concerned are refusing to allow their contracts to be terminated unles they are paid in full for the remainder of the term.

The Pompey Supporters Trust also could make a bid for the club, but say that the players must go before they can proceed. If the club is liquidated then the players will get little or nothing from the club and Chanrai stands to lose his charges over the club. This could lead to a new club being formed by the PST, but it seems too late to apply for membership of any league, and it is not certain that they would even have a ground to play at.

It is far more complex than this summary with other people believing that they have charges over the land and ground, and I have thought for some time that it will all end in tears.

The situation is sad when football clubs become the toys of the rich. When someone thinks they can make money it is worse and making an investment of a lot of money to make even more is stupid. The biggest clubs have reached a level and traveled beyond but for a club to reach that stage they must plan carefully. I think the clubs of Europe are far stronger generally than the clubs in England and Skótland because most have a more sensible vision and are regulated more as companies, but there are exceptions.
