I see what you are driving at but don't forget Lineker, Fowler (at his height), Ian Wright, Beardsley, and Duncan Ferguson to name just a few.
I suppose so. Pallister was great, and probably more like Ferdinand than Vidic really. I just don't think he was ever quite as dominant as Vida.
I guess your opinion of Pallister and Vidic may well depend who you rate higher out of Ferdinand and Vidic. Much like Bruce and Pallister, and Stam and Johnsen, they each bring different things to the defence. I also think its' difficult to compare the two cos they operated in quite different environments. Pallister could get away with making tackles that Vidic would get a straight red for, but then strikers could get away with more against Pally as well. Regardless, they were both legends of the game
