"Of course you are right Stanley, Ignorance IS the great satan. Hitchens though, great as he was, had an intellect so overpowering that he was incapable of experiencing other facets of life such as the intuitive powers that we all possess (some remarkably so) and the very real life-force that can be experienced by studying under a Qigong Master for example. His sheer brain-power (and no doubt a touch of ego) made it impossible for him to be able to even attempt to explain the subtleties of life and that gaping hole means he could only cover a tiny fragment of the human experience. To him everything could be explained by Science and Reason but his black and white view of the World falls way short." Quote Swords

I sincerely know that we are blessed on here and can talk about racism and then make a cup of tea while other people are currently being beaten or abused. In London a man is racially abused, beaten and chased every 17 minutes ... and to be frank he is beginning to get pissed off with it!

We try to become outraged by two footballers calling each other names and 2 million quid is spent, while in other parts of this world it takes place without a whimper

Been traveling for work, but also haven't seen much I wanted to add my tuppence ha'penny worth to. As I may have mentioned before, I hate the close season. This board has become very self referential ( endless threads about you for example) and repetitive, but it will perk up when we start playing again. Just feel sorry for Brix and Nuts for the hassle boredom and John Terry has created for them.
We have had this discussion before too. You referred to some best selling guru type, who I actually read a bit of. Complete bollocks, of course. I'm surprised at you for being taken in by such charlatans, and I was very surprised at your blanket comments about 'the Jews' on this thread. I'm interested in people who help me improve how I think, I find those who want to tell me what to think ( like all those listed in my earlier post and many others) offensive and it's my duty to call them out at every opportunity because of the damage they do and the misery they have inflicted throughout history. I don't like doing it on here because this is for chats with my virtual mates about QPR, one of the few things, along with my family, that I consciously suspend my rationality for.

Not really pissed off, just a little bemused and bored. Have you noticed the number of threads on which somebody posts some real information about a player or a situation, and how often this post is ignored by others who continue debating from their entrenched positions? This is a microcosm of our problems as a species, and I'm tired of it.

Don't see what all the fuss is about. Hitchens is/was the best writer I've ever come across. I've three of his books sitting on the shelf opposite me right now and I've read GING thrice since I got it a few years ago. His intelligence is mind-boggling, his turn of phrase exquisite. But from personal experience, the man is not totally correct! What's so wrong with that?

Stan says he doesn't like people telling him how to think, neither do I. Its just an opinion mate. No need to get all hot and bothered about it.

What a pair of numpties. Just because you read a book you should take it as Gospel? Ever heard of critical thinking?

Hitchens, though of a superior intellect, knew no more about this World than I do. I can guarantee you that. Stop worshipping one bloke and his ego. You sound like quislings when you do that and it makes me feel rather uncomfortable.

You've missed the point entirely Swords. Hitchens is just one example of critical thinking at work. I certainly don't follow him, or anyone else, slavishly. Completely disagree with his support of Bush's Iraq policy. But what he does is represent an approach to thinking from the enlightenment onwards, which is based on facts, discourse and experiment. If you agree with this it is very difficult to logically also think you need a small 'mystical' part of yourself to help with the things you don't understand.

Enough of this. Have we signed that ****er Hoillet yet?
