    Hi All,

I saw this interesting article on SKy (shock horror) about Lewis Hamiltons carear so far.

    Full Article: http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12040/7904492/Hamilton-s-100th-How-his-stats-compare

    12. Mika Hakkinen - 3.

Its Interesting as he has had a strong start to his F1 carear but still some Legends of the past did better than him during a 100 race period. It is Also interesting looking at the stats of the other drivers too. Sennas 46 Poles blows everyone else out of the water. Also Damon Hill seems to have some good stats to his name amongst the others. One thing to note Also is Damon and most of the others also had to toil in a back marker team for their first season.

It's Kovalainen's 100th race too. Where are his Sky celebrations?

    <yikes>

Surprised to see Hill so high on these. Lewis and Alonso are fairly evenly matched, Vettel's only 9 races behind Hamilton by the way, so he can be compared after Abu Dhabi.

Damon Hill! Looks like history has treated him harshly. I mean, IIRC, he was bloody good at the time; his rivalry with Schumi was very real, it just didn't last long. ;) His time at the top seemed all too brief.

Anyway, Lewis and Kovi, congratulations. It would be good if the 100th race had a suitable result but it's a tallish order and, anyway, these kind of special anniversaries tend not to yield special results.

    Button at 300? (I think)

He helped his team today but was a big looser to lady luck today. At least he gets shiny bits for Hungary now.

I think you'll find that was 200!!! He's not that old yet.

As for the Hamilton stats, what we have to remember is he has driven in a competitive car right from the start of his career, unlike most of the others who have had to work their way up the ladder starting from near the bottom.

But the 2009 and 2010 Mclarens were that poor they could have been considered bottom cars, bear in mind it's only Mclarens engineering catch up that made them better towards the end of each year.

Yes, but they were still capable of winning a race. Drivers like Alonso and Hill raced cars (Minardi and Brabham, respectively) which didn't really have a hope of scoring a point, let alone winning a race. Hamilton has never been in that situation.

"Yes, but they were still capable of winning a race."

In Hamilton's hands only, the 2009 car was a disaster and it is foolish to pretend differently. Anybody with a memory will recall Alonso and Hamilton battling at Silverstone for 12 and 13th? Could have been lower, but even the Ferrari won a race that season, again, only with the better of their drivers. Neither cars could possibly be considered good.
Also let's nor forget, any driver in his his maiden season partnered with a double and current World Champion who he then BEATS has to be good.

"Hamilton has never been in that situation. "

He was in that situation in 2009, but his talent shone through, as did Alonso's in the garbage Ferrari.

This year the Ferrari is vastly superior and can pull away from anything, as Hockenhein showed... even the supposedly superior McLaren, with an equal driver on new tyres.......

I think seasons 05-10 should be banned from all discussions here. It just brings up the same crap over and over again about how good each car "actually" was. Having a poor car gets twisted into an excuse that "my driver can drive a crap car better than yours so that makes him better!" and having a fast car is now used as an insult to decide "Your driver isn't that good as he had a dominant car, if (insert driver) had that car he would of won every race etc..."

Those seasons already happend people, get over it!

Alonso's still pulling away, thats the only thing that should matter to Lewis at the moment, nothing else.

The Mclaren was a crap car in 09? Yet it got pole at Abu Dhabi by nearly a second? In the second half of the season, it could be argued to be the best car, it was only bad for what? 5 races? And the 2010 car won 6 races, i dont see how that's bad.

POB, totally agree Lewis's debut season was great it was giant killing on a colossus scale Alonso will have a rookie finishing above him on his cv for ever. Lewis has also set records that might not repeated again like the 9 consecutive podium in his rookie year. Nicky Lauda has described him as the greatest rookie ever and we have to give Ron Dennis credit for getting rid of a team disruptor and sticking with the rookie who gave Mclaren the WDC a year later.

    2007 was a great year for F1

Nino Farina will always remain the greatest rookie of all time though, he won the world title in his rookie year against the likes of Fangio in the same car!

You could tell he was extra, extra special as on his first ever race in F1 (at Silverstone) he won it!

No rookie will ever be as special as Farina!

2010? When Jenson and Lewis were 1-2 in the championship at the half way stage? That one was average at best and 2009 improved to average over the season. He had about 8 races in a bottom car in early 09. It was hardly an HRT, or even one of the later Hondas

That said it will be playing on hamilton now that he's staring at his 4th year of not being in contention at the sharp end of the championship, not even making the top three once since his title. I dont see them being capible of delivering him another title at the moment.
