Motherwell eye £500k TV windfall MOTHERWELL are eyeing a potential £500,000 payday after drawing a Champions League qualifier against Greek giants Panathinaikos yesterday. The Fir Park club are offering to sell international TV rights to the football-mad Greek market for the first leg on Tuesday, July 31. Four years ago, Well netted around £200,000 from the broadcast package they sold ahead of their UEFA Cup tie with French club Nancy and the SPL outfit are hoping for a similar cheque this time around. That cash will be banked with gate receipts from Motherwellâs first ever Champions League clash and the club is hoping that at least 10,000 fans will pour into Fir Park for the visit of the Athens side. Tickets are expected to be priced at £30, which would add another £300,000 to the coffers and manager Stuart McCall is hoping to get his hands on some of the cash to boost his defensive options. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/footba...th-greek-outfit-panathinaikos-86908-23910819/
Well (pardon the pun) they have a chance to qualify for the CL for the next 3 seasons, that's not bad is it? At the moment all they have lost is a guaranteed one home game a season against Rangers which makes them about £100k. So IF they manage to screw about 500k out of one match they are already ahead of the game.
They won't have a chance at the CL if Scotland's coefficient keeps dropping, we'll soon be back to one CL place. It's good to see a team like Motherwell get a big pay day but I doubt any SPL chairman would complain about earning too much money, I'm sure they'd still like to be earning money off Rangers. And Rangers in the SPL would guarantee them more than just one home game, we'd play them at least 3 times so that guarantees them a full house at home and 2 cuts of the gate money at Ibrox, or the other way around depending on how the fixtures work out. Would that be more than £500k? It'd be a total guess to say either way but I'm betting it's a nice wee earner for these clubs
I won't pretend to know how much money made out of Rangers last season but Rome was not built in a day, besides, if Motherwell need the income from Rangers they would be no loss to Scottish Football if they went bust, same as any club who is basically nothing but a parasite.
We've already had our payday anyway, apparently we got £800k for Steven Davis. Our club captain, an internationalist and has Premier League experience YALDY!!!
Aye, £800k could buy a right few carthorses. £800k for Steven Davis, somebody got a right good deal there. And it wasn't ****ing us!
