In the build up to the FA Cup semi final, BBC pundits were asked to choose the best ever combined XI from all United and City players. The resulting team contained one City player.

The best bit about it is that the entire comments page is full of United fans saying Bell should be replaced with Keane, Scholes, Cantona or Giggs. Hardly any comments arguing in favour of more City players, even from the City fans!

Not sure that Rooney should be there over Cantona. Ronaldo over Giggs is a bit of a surprise but I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Ronaldo wasn't at United any where near as long as Giggs has been but in terms of sheer ability and goalscoring prowess he was unparalleled, so I can understand that one.

Colin Hendry should be in there as he was a better defender than the ones in there. He played in the famous 5-1 City win in 1989.

Classic KPR! Next he'll be asking for Dickov and David White up front <doh>
I wouldn't have Pallister or Ronaldo in there personally. Both great players (particularly the Portuguese), but I think Giggs should definitely be in there and either Vidic or Stam (probably the latter as Stam was only here 3 seasons)

Nah he's probably never ever heard of Paul Dickov or David White.

    Good point <ok>

But I reckon he's more closely associated with United.

I personally think Keane should be in there instead of Bell. Scholes is/was a better player than Keane (though not by much), but a midfield of Scholesy and Charlton would leave the defence a bit unshielded.

I don't know why I'm getting all tactical over a team that has Duncan Edwards and Cristiano Ronaldo in <doh>

    Maybe this:

    Schmeichel
    Neville Vidic Edwards Irwin
    Keane
    Scholes Charlton
    Best Giggs
    Law

Cantona would have to settle for a place on the bench alongside van der Sar, Pallister, Stam, Bell, Robson, Rooney and van Nistelrooy.

I believe Pallister would be ahead of Vidic. Pallister was a top player. Great in the air, had pace, great timing in his tackles and for a big man very composed on the ball. I remember the season he got PFA player of the year (1992), now I could be wrong but I believe he hadn't been booked for a whole year. Quite an achievement for a CB.

I agree, he was class, but I think the best opponents he faced on a weekly basis in those days ie. Mike Newell, Mark Robins, Dalian Atkinson, etc were a little easier to handle than the likes of Drogba, van Persie, Tevez.
