Guys, I'm having trouble predicting pole. 1. Any ideas on lap time? 2. Hamilton or Vettel? It was close in Malaysia, but I hear RB may not run KERS, while McLaren are bringing updates - but I can't help thinking that RB still are superior
I've gone 1:34.799 Last year: 1:34.558 Tips: I'd say steer clear of Mercedes. Buemi, being a class 5 driver, is a good shout for a lower points finish. Between Red Bull and McLaren for the win/pole, Lewis said he thinks RBR might have compromised for cooling reasons in Malaysia, and McLaren have some updates so they'll probably be similarly matched again. Vettel for pole, it's just what he does, he's on top form, he'll probably have the fastest car and he's been on pole here the last two seasons. Forecast is dry so there's not much point predicting stupid results like a Massa win or D'Ambrosio in the points.
Thanks AG. I have also decided to go with Vettel, as, he is the man in form, and at the moment, looking unbeatable. I am curious at to why you think the pole time will be slower then last year. I am still confused about this - Malaysia pole was slower then Button's Q2 time in 2009, but in Melbourne Vettel was quicker then his 2010 pole time (and over a second faster then the fastest Q2 time in 2009). How fast do you think the cars are relative to the 2009/2010 cars?
In theory they should be faster in a straight line, but slower on the bends (no DD). But who really knows
I think they will be slightly slower. It's hard to compare times directly without knowing which compounds were used last year (I can't be bothered to research that). I think Vettel's Australia time was probably faster because of the extra set up work they got done in testing and that his lap this year was a bit of a monster while last year's was a bit scruffy. Good idea with the Q2 times. Last week's pole was 1.1s down on the '09 Q2 though, which would make Saturday's pole a 1:36.2?? which seems way too slow. I think I'll just stick with what I've gone with so far and use China as a benchmark for Turkey.
If I remember rightly Ive gone for a 1 35 5. Cba to check, but I cant see them going quicker as there are many high speed corners...
the rules on this interforum thing means that only a max of 2 people can score for each forum. So, for example, AG could finish 1st and moltisanti 3rd, but if I finished 10th, I can't score points for us. And the points system is the same for the F1 (25,18,15 etc.). thanks to that it is turning out to be very close in the fight for interforum champion, and so is the not606 championship!
I see what your saying but tbh they have more chances as there is more of them eg. 11 people 10 1 team 1 other. the 10 have more chance even if only 1 of the 10 score. If you understand that
what i've done with the pole lap time is just look at the results from last year at the F1 site. The I have to take weather into considering, which is about 12 seconds more if it is full wet weather I think. Unfortunately, I misjudged the weather at Malaysia, thanks to the BBC forecast, and I got it completely wrong, as was the race results. Even after all of that, you have to take into consideration how effective KERS and DRS will be on the straights, and whether the weight of KERS causes slower corner speeds. Also, when you make your prediction, theres a tab above it for circuit history, should shed some light!!
Times up Lets have a nose what you all put Went on Button for pole as if Vettel gets it the points are pretty small anyway.
Aren't the points for pole the same for everyone? I thought it was only race results that were weighted. Pole: Vettel, 1:34.799 1: Vettel 2: Button 3: Heidfeld 4: Hamilton 5: Petrov 6: Alonso 7: Webber 8: Buemi 9: Massa 10: Kobayashi
It appears I confused myself, anyway Pole: JB 1:34:500 1: SV 2: LH 3: JB 4: MW 5: FA 6: NH 7: FM 8: VP 9: KK 10: PdiR
For the race, drivers are split into 5 different classes; for qualifying, each driver has their own individual points rating, e.g. Vettel is 2-1, which means if you guess correctly that he gets pole you get 2 points, but if he ends up second on the grid you get 1 point.
I went for... Pole: Vettel - 1:34:119 1st: Hamilton 2nd: Button 3rd: Vettel 4th: Webber 5th: Alonso 6th: Heidfeld 7th: Petrov 8th: Kobayashi 9th: Schumacher 10th: Buemi
*Sigh* In hindsight, I should have put DiResta in 7th behind SV LH & FA as its more realistic and still get quite alot of points for it.
I think I do. Do you mean that they could have a 1st and 2nd scoring points for them, but also have a 4th, 7th and 10th, taking points away from the rest of the forums?
I've but Hamitlon, Button, Vettel and Heidfield in the top four, but in an order that I can still score good points if they don't finish there. So, I've put Button for the win and Hamilton 2nd, but, if Jenson finishes 3rd and Lewis wins, i still get a good haul of points. And it's typical that I put Hiedfield in the top four and he puts it in the wall in FP1.........
