As soon as Proschwitz came on, he straight away was an impact. He never stops moving and isn't like Brady as he knows how to pass! Koren was captain tonight too, and IMHO, he didn't look like a player who wanted to leave for another Championship side, he played with pride. Really unlucky with a shot that hit that bar. Cairney again impressed me by getting a lot of possession and moving the team forwards. He has been improving over the last Season or so and looks to finally be getting a game head on. He is getting better as an all round player. Simpson seemed to spend most of his time on the ground, the Grimsby defenders made him their bitch! Can I just say, great following from The Tigers tonight, despite it being a friendly, we must have took around 500/600 to that lame excuse for a Ground. Well done boys
Agree with most of your comments. We had loads of possession and moved it about well but we lacked someone to take a man on and create the space for a chance. We didn't really come close with a proper chance they were all sort of snapshots because Grimsby were organised and didn't give us space. Hopefully this Aluko chap will help us to break down defences like this.
My report: http://boothferrytowembley.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/grimsby-town-0-hull-city-0.html Didn't think Koren had a particularly good game by his standards but agree with the topic starter, he didn't look like a player desperate to get away. Good pro. Shot that hit the bar was terrific.
Thought Simpson was our best player. Really unlucky with the chip on the keeper in the second half. Just didn't get enough on it, and it was cleared. I think he looks rejuvinated under Bruce. Keeper- flapped at a few half chances they had but generally all right. Back four were solid enough. McShane will always be back up to Rosey. His Alice Band was quite amusing to see though. Great reception for Rosenior when he came in during the first half. Dudgeon was good. It's important for him, Cooper, East, McShane to all contest for places. Midfield- Cairney solid kept the ball, maybe a touch to long at times, but he's coming on. Koren was made captain and passed it about well but had no real impact upfront until he hit the bar. Stewart jsut needs a game where he finds the net and sets up a few goals. He got down the line well, but his final ball was lacking and he held onto it too much, which infuriated sections of the City fans. I really want him to do well this season to answer his critics. Devitt probably won't play too much this season. Decent run out in the first half. The lad who replaced him in the second half did ok when he came on. Strikers- Mclean- out battled, Simpson was a threat, Proschwitz looked good on the ball when he came on with some neat touches. Cullen still doesn't know the offside rule. Not the best of matches but it's a run out for the lads and that's all it is. Good support apart from some of the lads at the front who started singing about killing coppers. A bit daft. Thought Agnew sounded decent on Blunderside afterwards.
It was Townsend who came on for Devitt Lloydy and yeah he did alright playing as a winger rather than his usual LB, I'd have thought Dudgeon would have moved up into midfield and Townsend gone to LB. Aye I thought Mclean was a bit of a passenger tbh. Best atmosphere from a pre season game though. Any new ideas on who Rosie's mate is? I think Jackupovic has looked a bit flappy at times (Tonight and at Ferriby, I didn't make it to Winterton, although did Oxley start there?). He obviously hasn't encountered centre halves giving him a hard time much before.
Cheers Rob, i've noticed someone put Townsend's name on the subs list up on another thread. I didn't know who Rosenior's mate was- my guess was his brother. If he has one. Rosey was great with the lads at the front- posing for pictures after coming in and before being made to walk right round the away stand to go to the better seats where the other City boys were, i'm guessing. I didn't go to either Ferriby or Winterton so i woulsn't know. I'm guessing if Amos comes onloan he'll be our main keeper, as i doubt he'll come here to play second fiddle. Just seen on Grimsby's Fishy site that it was about 611 City fans there tonight. Not bad going.
I've been to all 3 friendlies so far and one thing I've noticed is that McShane has given us one massive grunt whilst heading the ball in each game. It's really weird but always amuses the nearby fans. I thought Cairney was awesome again tonight, pleased to hear that Agnew agreed with me too. Might this be the year he finally gets a run in the team and makes a place his own?
If Aluko was at the training ground with everyone today could he be the guy that was with Rosie? (I'd say especially so if Alex Bruce was with them, AB would have been just breaking into the Birmingham first team when Aluko was still there so might have some familiarity with him)
As 0-0 freidlies go this was one of the better ones to watch. A step up in opposition and a useful workout for all that played. Impressed full stop and its all looking good as pre-season hots up. Off to Bridlington saturday for fish n chips and to see who the Hull City 11 are. Its just annoying that City have 7 players carrying injuries and knocks already. Hence why Bruce needs a big squad for the season ahead. Steve Agnew said after the game to Burnsy that Dawson and McKenna will be back in training monday and Fryatt and Oli have slight knows. Evans is a bigger worry though as scans say he could be out for 3 weeks.
Rosie's mate is a chunky lad (not fat but not athletic) with really long curly hair. He's either mixed race or Eastern European. He's most definitely not Aluko.
