Please not O'Shea at right back he was horrible there, don't know if Cuellar any better but he cant be worse. Think you could be right though
we need another proper right back not Brown, Cuellar or O'Shea filling in there if someone has to fill in then Gardner will do a better job than the three above. We need another proper right back to compete with Bardo and when like now when 1 of them is injured we have another proper right back to go straight into the side. I see Southampton have signed Clyne, that lad would of been perfect for us. Still plenty of time I suppose.
Agreed. O'Shea should be in the centre where his positional sense is almost perfect. He's wasted at RB (and not very good at RB as well)
Cuellar played most of his games at RB for Villa under MON so I expect this will be where he gets put with Bardo out injured. Its bad news as Bardo is one of our stand out players.
Shows our vulnrability in the two full back slots, we have players who can cover, but that's all the are, COVER. We need dedicated full backs.
now i know everyone hates elmo but ------o'shea---brown---Cuellar------ elmo-----------------------------------ricco not ideal but could work
Whilst I admire McBardsley for his combative attitude and his strength and the occasional wonderful goal, he is only a above-average premiership right back. Like with most positions at our club, we need better. All this does is highlight our plight. We are in crisis because Scotland's full back is injured. ? x
Above average PL right back. So the average position for a club would be 10th - above-average would therefore be 8/9th - isn't that ok for us? I agree Bardsley isn't one of the best RBs in the world (or even the league) but I think as a standard of player he's good enough, with all things considered.
Wonder what happened to the Fucile link, he is the right sort, a proper wing back (not great defensively, but few are nowadays). I actually think Bardo is one of the leagues better RB's, there's seldom few great RB's around.
I'm still amazed at the negatives that surround a player that wholeheartedly gives his all for the club and is often our stand out player in desperate times (the derby Halloween horror show for one). How many full backs for ANY club in Europe can score 2 or 3 25 yard pile-drivers every season? Who tackles harder in the club. Who puts his body on the line more to defend? I'm an unashamed Bardsley supporter and would be gutted to see him either replaced (unless we were going to bring in Philipp Lahm for £30m which will NEVER happen obviously) or sold. Lads like Bardsley are priceless imo and we have his best years to come. Would be my choice as captain as well, as he is carved right out of the Bally mould. I desperately hope we make sure he is tied to the club for the next 5 or 6 years and reckon by the time he leaves he will be another legend in the Bally, Benno class. In fact, if anyone can give me a better right back available and affordable, and prove why they think they are better than Phil, I'll happily listen.
I agree to a point Cest, certainly the Bally comparison is fair (and that is a big statement from me, Bally being my ****ing hero), in terms of heart, commitment etc, Bally wasn't exactly Messi in terms of ability was he, but I felt pride just watching the man, every week. I get the school of thought of 'progress' but I think we're about 2 years from NEEDING to replace Bardo, and the way he's improved last 2 years, if he improves more, the day may never come. He'd be my captain too, every day of the week.
Mons, people forget that he can play both flanks with ease and if push came to shove, he'd make a brilliant Bally style midfield destroyer as well imo. Chuck in the 2 or 3 goal of the season efforts he now regularly contributes (unlike my hero Bally as well) and you have a very good modern day pro who never lets you down. Mr consistency imo.
