That's not really true, though, is it? Okay, the alleged wages thing seems to be, but you might be taking it a bit far with the rest. Seems like you're trying a bit too hard to be different.
Totally agree. I'm all for a bit of the occasional mickey take, but as long as it stays just that. It's when joke becomes fact, then there's damaging problem. I'm sure Forecast will find his level at some point and start to progress from there. He needs regular games and a consistent run. Bartosz Bialkowski, our old 2nd keeper, now 1st choice at Notts County, had plenty of admirers, and indeed whenever he came in, he gave a pretty good account of himself - except for one match, against Blackpool at St Marys. He'd barely played in a decent standard competitive match, for quote a while, so good was the form and fitness of Kelvin Davis, and he had a howler of a game. After that, everyone and his dog wrote to say that he was rubbish [sorry to those who stuck up for him] and always had been. Absolutely not true. He's actually a pretty good keeper and I've little doubt will serve Notts County well, and perhaps even go on to play for Poland, as he wants to. He just requires games as well. Forecast definitely needs a few more to find his confidence, I've no doubt.
Bart had a very impressive run in the team when he first came into the side, and wasn't very bad except for the Blackpool game when he made occasional appearances from then on in. Forecast, however, has had appalling loan spells at Grimsby, Thurrock, Eastbourne and Bromley, not exactly an impressive run in the Championship, is it? Bialkowski was slated by a few idiots with one year memory. Forecast is slated by the majority. Southampton fans view the two very differently, it's an absurd comparison to make.
Not really, what I get from your post is they both need time as first choice to become good etc. If not then sorry. In the case of Bart I agree totally, lack of games stopped his development and destroyed his confidence. Forecast isn't like that at all, he is just basically ****. I have seen him round town alot (mainly 90 degrees) and he acts like a complete twat. He strikes me as a guy that wants the footballers life style, but cant actually play or work for it.
I am NOT making the comparison between the goalkeepers. I am illustrating how fans' opinion can move and change, with the merest whiff of rumour and uninformed comment. Besides, this was not for Saints fans, specifically to read, as such, but in answer to the Gills fan's enquiry. And Dan, please don't tell me that it was a minority who decided that Bart was rubbish, all for one game. Suddenly, there were more than that on here ready to condemn him for good. Now, you can either try to understand, or I may have to decide that my usual ramblings on here have to take on an epic length just to make sure that even the last person is left in no doubt as to my meaning.
Everyone knows fans (to make a sweeping generalisation) are very fickle, but it's hardly applicable to Forecast - he wasn't adored from the start, and the fact we've been lumped with him for four years has just made resentment grow over time. It was certainly a minority of people who got viciously offended by Bart - it was just a very vocal minority. To compare the complaints he got to Forecast is a very weak comparison. I understand what you're saying, you're trying to make a comment on the fickle nature of public opinion with particular regard to football, which is fine, and something no sensible person would disagree with. It's just not accurate to apply it to the curious case of Tommy Forecast.
Well at least you got some of the idea. Adkins regularly talks of all the squad training very hard indeed. I have seen one or two comments of the hard graft that both Kelvin AND Tommy Forecast put in, and I assume Adkins knows hard training when he sees it. There is some myth about Saints fans that Forecast has never been any good as a keeper. Yet somewhere along the line, a particular club spent time and money nurturing his potential. They felt he had a future. Having established that, if he was no good at all, he would never have made it into the professional ranks. There are plenty who have fallen by the wayside, yet this Forecast guy didn't. Is it possible then that he may actually be OK for some club..? I'm not suggesting he's good enough for Saints, but it begs my question that, maybe he'd improve if he found his level and got a chance to play regular games, elsewhere. It's finding that club who are willing and prepared to give him that time. To suggest that Forecast is basically crap is to fly against all the expertise that has brought him to this point in his career. Maybe he can start in non-league..? I don't know. Maybe Gillingham will be his kick-off point.
It's accurate enough to answer the enquiry of a Gills fan. Please remember who the answer was intended for, Dan.
I doubt he will try to improve his game until the wages Saints give him dry up. I bet gillingham aren't paying all his wages. After that he will have to actually try to improve, insted of living the party life style.
I agree the guy has to move on. He needs a clean break, and he certainly doesn't need his reputation to follow him. EDIT: Of course, the bloke has been part of the Lowe legacy. It was from the Lowe era when he was signed, so that didn't bode well for his chances of being liked. I didn't like the signing, and I certainly would rather he'd not come to Saints. Equally, I see the thoughtless condemnation of him as needless as well. Just get rid, and let him kick start his career elsewhere.
That's fine, but (and this is what I am aiming at) would you say the same thing about any other player you see around town? I see the stories about his apparent attitude and behaviour repeated often enough and by people who have never met him. Maybe it is true, I don't know. And the criticism after the ML Cup, sure there's jokes and some amusement about him making his debut after however many years, fine. But would he have still got the same amount of criticism if he conceded the goal Kelvin did, and Kelvin let in Gervinho's goal? I'm certain the answer is yes. The only solution is for him to get out of St Mary's and start again somewhere else, that has finally happened. Glad I kicked off some good debate anyway.
Umm him and Barnard are the two that come of as pricks when you see them out imho. Rest are all easy to chat to and just having a laugh.
