I hate it when media people with no idea about football are made to present/talk about football. Like that Jake Humphrey guy at the Euros. You could tell he had no expertise whatsoever. Is there a shortage of football fans who could do this sort of thing?
Which is ashame really because he is great on the f1, but like you say it's because he actually loves the sport.
One of the best 'what the ****' moments had to be several years ago when I switched on the darts from the Lakeside. ****ing Claire Balding presenting it with side kick Bobby George. Now I know she's a butch girl, but this was back when she only did the posh horse based sports. Fortunately it was for one night only. Ray Stubbs had commitments for some other sporting event, but returned the next day to resume normal service.
I'm pretty sure Jake Humphrey is a big norwich supporter so loves both sports. From memory I think he was **** when he first started on f1 but got better and better. I don't think he's done much football presenting previously but he may grow into it if he carries on doing it
I find that surprising if true, at the euros he sounded like he was just repeating stuff he had been told to say.
Oh come on, it'll be January before he concedes that. It's taken until now with Bruce signing all the kind of players we said we needed last season for Tickler to realise we lacked depth and we weren't just being negative for the sake of it. He's definitely a Norwich fan, and he definitely admitted to knowing **** all (in presenter's standards) about F1 and not being that interested in it before he started doing it, it was basically just a promotion and an opportunity to try to get into the football side of things. That's not to say he hasn't developed an interest in it through doing it. I'd suspect with the time he spends on the F1, being a big Norwich fan (regularly at their games when he's in the UK), and being used to front any old **** the BBC needs a presenter for that his knowledge of other football would be more limited than it should be for doing the job.
