Says we want Downing for £8m but Liverpool want £12m.

I'd happily pay £10m. Good player, awful form mind.

    Seems excessive and slightly coprophiliac.

    But I take your point.

I'm with Disco on this one.

One bad season (not as bad as some people are making out mind) and people are writing him off.
Good premier league player who would do really well for us.

Downing for £8m would be okay with me too but not at the expense of not going for Adam Johnson?

Did Dalgleish get the best out of anyone last season? None that I can think of!

Downing was very good at Villa, scored goals and made many assists (44 games, 8 goals and 9 assists in his last season at Villa) that would do for me!................. I believe that under MON's guidance and support he will be good again. Played better for England than Liverpool and was still in the Euro squad.

I wouldn't go that far like. Wouldn't pick downing over jonas in a toon starting 11.

I'd take Downing in a blink, he's a quality player who made the wrong move.

I was there when he made his league debut (for us, v WBA), and that was talent.

The right move, and he will be quality.

    Big yes from me.

I agree with the majority -still a good player and a once Sunderland favourite who might have signed for us at one time had Boro not had injury issues

Form is temporary but class is permanent

    BUT

Everton keeper Tim Howard scored more goals that attacking midfielder Downing!
I'm sure he only had one assist as well all season. For a "class attacking midfielder" that is ****e!

When he played for us first time around he was excellent. He looked good previously as well but previous season has seen his stock drop in my eyes

Different types of player Murray. I personally hate the way jonas goes on with his constant whining on the pitch but without him the mags wouldn't have been where they were. His defensive work was excellent.

Going forward I'd prefer downing when on form!! But that's the issue isn't it.. Form
