At the minute, not great. It is one of the worst hit areas in the country from this recession were in. There are quite a few boarded up shops in the town centre. Both the county and district councils became conservative run before the change in government too so we have had to oversee two dramatic cuts to the budgets. Unemployment is fairly high in proportion the the rest of the country too. However, I have not got a lot to compare it too since I was born and bread here PS - before people ask, it is because the family supported them and I followed suit from a very young age
Sounds a bit rough up there - economically, if not socially. Fair do's on the voting thing. Most people vote as their parents do. It's like religion in some respects. People inherit it and rarely examine it. My parents are devout C of E Christian (and a lot of my family are born-again, evangelical Christians) and always vote Labour. I'm an atheist and have variously voted for Labour, Liberal Democrats and Conservatives depending on my position and their policies at that time. Perhaps It's just because I'm a reactionary contrarian.
To be honest, I usually just vote for the person that is going to the most in the local area. I work in the Community and Voluntary sector so expect the local councillor to pull their fingers out their arses! Also, Labour's the best option when it comes to work, the conservatives getting in has **** all over our funding support
@dave Great post on the BBC 'racism in football' blog. [h=4]403.[/h] At 00:03 17th Jul 2012, foredeckdave wrote:"I accuse Clarke Carlisle of complete and utter hypocrisy in relation to the Suarez case. At the time he was a very vocal part of the media witch hunt condemning Suarez even before the case was heard by the FA . If he had bothered to do his research properly by trawling through the Liverpool blog sites he would have found that the majority of Liverpool supporters were irate about the process that the panel employed to arrive at their decision and the pressure put upon that tribunal by both the media and special interest groups. In the programme itself he let the impression hang that Suarez was found guilty of being a racist. He at least did nothing to point out that Suarez was never charged with being racist and that the judgement begins with a statement that the panel did not believe that he was. Finally Carlisle made play throughout the programme of his position as Chairman of the PFA. Therefore I would like to charge him with derogation of his duty to Suarez as one of the members of the union that Clarke supposedly leads."
