I'm just wondering (as you do ), whether Rodgers leaving could be a real blessing for us ,I know it's early days and a ball hasn't been kicked (in anger) yet ,but looking at our squad and the type of players that Mr Laudrup has brought in and the type of player that Liverpool are trying to bring in to try to replicate our way of playing I really think that next season could be easier for us than Liverpool , in expectation that is .We haven't had to start from scratch where as Liverpool look like there has to be if not significant but certainly a definite change to their style of playing . If he stayed I wonder where he would have looked to bring in players to strengthen the squad ,to date with the exception of one (Dempsey) the players linked with him are Swansea past & present .The market in Spain looks to be an area where we've exploited where as Rodgers seems to have avoided . This is not meant to be disrespectful to Joe at all( my opinion on Joe is recorded elsewhere ) but if I was a Liverpool fan I think I'd be underwhelmed with the players that Rodgers have been linked with, considering the League position expectations that will be upon Liverpool whether real or perceived . Looking at the monies spent to date on our squad between us & Liverpool I know i'm the happier.
Totally agree. Every day that passes brings more news which is encouraging for us and disheartening for Liverpool. All I wanted was to avoid relegation but starting to think we are about to improve again.
Dempsey would be signing of the century lol. Think things are looking bright for the future for us jacks. Can't wait for the big kickoff.
Bony totally agree pal, I think the Liverpuddle lot must be thinking where the heck is Brendan going next , the tea woman at Watford? No ML seems to have a wider vision when it comes to players and I for one am very thankfull. I just hope everybody gells and quickly . Really looking forward to the next season!
Agree as well, blessing in disguise. We're adding power, versatility and flexibility to our squad. We will end up higher in the table than Liverpoool, they are still on a downward trajectory and are not anywhere close to the same degree of cohesion we have as a club on the field.
Without question, I thought before Laudrup's name was even mentioned that a new manager with new ideas and contacts could be a blessing as there was always the danger of second season syndrome. I don't feel so worried about it now, especially with Laudrup's links abroad and status to attract such signings. I think Roger's policy of going for players he's worked with could bite him on the arse at such a big club with such huge expectations. It worked well for us bringing in players he worked with at Chelsea, Watford and Reading, but I think he'll need another string to his bow at Liverpool. I read on the Liverpool forums when we appointed Laudrup, how disappointed they were that we replaced Rogers with Laudrup and they had to pay us £7 million for the privilege. I think most were bemused that they didn't go for him themselves. I have a feeling their disappointment could turn to despair as the season progresses
I think we would have had another good season with Brendan at the helm, but I agree with everything else you've said.
Don't get me wrong, I was gutted when he went for fear of the unknown again, but that soon turned to thinking of the positives of it all and thinking that maybe Brendan took us as far as he could. Apart from Sigurgssen, I wonder who else he would have brought in on our budget. There can't be many more players that he's worked with that we would have splashed out on
Who are you talking about in relation to players we're linked with? I'd happily take Allen, Dempsey, A. Johnson or Afellay to Liverpool... perhaps even Walcott; and they are the linked players.
So far all I've heard you're definitely linked with are Borini, Sigurgssen and Allen. Maybe I've only heard of them because of the Swansea connection, but Rogers does generally just go for players he knows from past experience. I'm sure he'd fancy a couple more from us too, maybe Williams, Vorm and Sinclair come next season. Do you think that would be Liverpool moving forward? I think that would just make you little Swansea
What about Tremmel, Bessone, Lita, and MacCreachen? The shine is coming off Rodgers isn't it? I really do think he's going to crash and burn.
