Just putting a new thread to discuss the Olympics whether it's the football or swimming, and any other sport in there.

This is meant to discuss the sport and the athletes, can you respectfully leave the politics at the door, I know some are against the games, which you have expressed in other threads, but I would like this thread not to discuss that if you don't mind.

I and others I am sure would like to just chat about the games as there is no section to that here.

What's everyone most looking forward to?

Obviously, Usain Bolt in the 100m, and for me it's the Judo events as well! Also always enjoy a nice bit of Weightlifting and Tae-kwon-do!

How about sports that should be in there ? I would like to see rugby in there, but Karate should have been, a friend of a friend was hoping that he would get an opportunity to compete.

Athletics, football, boxing, cycling and rowing for me. Not fussed on gymnastics although I appreciate the skills involved. Equestrianism doesn't do it either but will watch basketball and hockey. The swimming should be interesting as we have some decent medal hopes there.

HAHAH! We have one girl in the Judo team who might pique your interest, I can't remember her name but she's our lowest weight fighter!

I always enjoy watching the squash in the commonwealths (no idea why), so was a bit disappointed it didn't get in. I watched the hockey last time and quite enjoyed it to be fair, so I might have a look!

    This one? - http://www.teamgb.com/athletes/kelly-edwards-0

Love the fact that within one page of posts we've reverted to type and gone for the 'who to perv at' approach.

The closer it gets the more exciting I think it will be apart from my daily commute which I'm dreading.

Got to say I don't think London is the most tourist friendly. Yes, a lot of tourists speak English but you won't see any signs in Spanish, German, French, Chinese, etc to help the tourists and the Transport For London staff aren't the friendliest at the best of times. I'd be happy for them to have their 'Olympic bonus' (a bonus payment for simply doing their job!!!) if they learned a foreign phrase or two ('Mind the doors' - "Cuidado con las puertas" or 'Keep to the right on escalators to not avoid the local commuters' - "保持自動扶梯的右側，以避免本地乘客").

And now we have the Home Office staff striking to cause maximum disruption. That'll endear us to the foreigners.

No-no sports for me are boxing, weightlifting, sailing, swimming, diving and tennis as we've only just finished Wimbledon.

What I will watch is any cycling (don't you just love the Tour de France), some athletics, gymnastics. I'm being serious here - synchronised swimming, incredibly skillful and artistic.

Overall though, I much prefer the Winter Olympics.
