Jamie Carragher admits Liverpool must feel the heat out in North America if they want to hit peak fitness in time for next year's Barclays Premier League campaign. Carragher and his teammates trained in the blistering Boston sun on Tuesday as temperatures soared above 100 degrees Fahrenheit at the club's prestigious Harvard base and Carra knows the added heat will force the squad to work that little bit harder during sessions.

"We've come for the weather," admitted Carra to Liverpoolfc.com. "Not in terms of getting a sun tan and those type of things, you need to work hard in this type of weather and hopefully improve fitness for the start of the season.

"I can only speak for myself in terms of the training sessions but they've been very enjoyable and we are working really hard. Whenever a new manager comes in there's always something slightly different, and because it's fresh and new people seem to take to it. I get on well with Rodgers. He's come here and really settled well - I think he's already found a home in Formby, so he's settled in with his family. Everyone has their own ideas and ways of doing things and this manager is no different."

Carragher is five years younger than the Reds' new boss but the centre-back, who has worked under six different managers throughout his 16-year career at Anfield, insists he is picking up valuable guidance on how to improve his own game from the current gaffer.

"Even as a player my age, you can learn certain things," he said. "And in the last few weeks I've picked up different things off the manager. You want to impress the manager and show him you are a good player and that you deserve to be in his team or in his plans. You've always got to try and prove yourself."

This summer Carragher swapped the pitch for the studio as he kept audiences entertained with insights and observations as an ITV Euro 2012 pundit. And during the North American tour, Liverpool's defensive stalwart will be entering even more unchartered territory as he plans to take centre stage at Fenway Park on Thursday night and throw the first pitch at a Boston Red Sox game.

Carragher has been doing some research ahead of his guest appearance.

"I actually went to watch a baseball match in the summer," admitted the centre-back. "I probably shouldn't say this, but I went to watch the Yankees while I was in New York for a few days.

"I've started watching a bit on TV since I've been back. I actually watched the Yankees play the Red Sox about 10 days ago and I was trying to understand it a little bit more. I don't fully understand it but I've got half an idea now so I'm actually looking forward to it and I'm sure it will be extremely enjoyable."

Fresh from Liverpool's first tour training session on Tuesday, Danny Wilson spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about how he intends to use the Reds' North American tour to impress new manager Brendan Rodgers. The Scot also explained how he's managing to cope with the sweltering heat in Boston and why he feels like one of the squad's elders â aged just 20.

Danny, a word on last season first of all. You were at Blackpool for half of the season. How was that for you? Was it a valuable experience?

I feel a lot better for going out there and playing in some big games that I wouldn't have played in had I stayed. So it was definitely a good experience for me. Getting 10 games and 10 starts was what I needed at the time and I'm just glad to be back and hopefully I can push on this season.

How does it feel to be back amongst the Liverpool lads?

It's great. There are still a few missing but it's great to be back amongst the boys. Training's been really good, really bright and really enjoyable, so everybody's having a good time.

On a personal note, what are your short-term aims for this tour?

Just to get some minutes under my belt. There's a new manager and everyone is looking to impress him and I'm exactly the same. Hopefully I can get some minutes on the pitch and put in some good training sessions over here. Then I'll just take it from there.

You weren't getting much game time at the start of last season at Liverpool. Do you see Brendan Rodgers coming in as a clean slate for yourself and for all the other players?

Yes, I think it is for everybody. He's come in and said he will give us all a chance to show what we can do and in training sessions I've been trying to push myself. Over here, if the manager gives me some game time I'll be trying to put myself in his thoughts.

Have you had a chance to speak to him yet about your future?

No. It's not important at the moment - it's more important for me to just get fit and get myself into a position where I can start trying to push myself into his thoughts. But I haven't spoken to him about anything like that, I just want to do the best I can over here.

We've spoken about your short-term aims for this tour, what about your long-term aims for the coming season?

It just depends on how the next few weeks go. Hopefully I can play myself into (the manager's) plans and just take it from there really. I can't look long-term just yet; I need to work on the short-term. The next few weeks are really important for me.

There are a lot of Academy lads here. Do you feel like one of the senior pros?

Yeah, I'm still only 20 but there are some 17-year-olds here like Raheem. It's great for them to be here but it does make me feel old even though I'm really not!

How are they doing? There's some good young talent there and the fans always want to know about good young players...

They are great. They are fitting in really well and they are all really shining in training - nobody is letting themselves down, so hopefully that can continue on the tour.

How is a young, pallid Scot like yourself finding the heat here?

Not great! I've been slapping the sun cream on. I'm hoping I'll cope but you never can tell.

Tell us a little bit about the training sessions. It looks a little bit intense out there. How does it compare to what you were used to under Kenny and under other managers?

It's just different thoughts really. Every manager has got different ideas on how they want the game played and the manager likes it to be nice and tense, short and sharp. All the boys are enjoying it. It's different from last season but we've all enjoyed it so far and long may that continue.

Has he given the squad and you a lot of feedback? Does he stop training to get a point across?

The manager will let the training flow but if there's something he feels we need to speak about, he will stop and we'll go and do it again. We'll do it until it is right. He's very thorough that way and it's been enjoyable so far.

Absolutely amazing to see Rushie and Fowler as part of the representation, would be good to see them have some kind of full time coaching role, tho i seem to remember Fowler being involved last season. It'd be inspirational for any footballer to see those legends surely

Totally agree. 1st and 4th (?) on our club's top scorer list. Absolute legends, both! Brilliant to see them still involved - get digger back, too!

Doubt RF would be back if Ol' Big Nose was still around, though. It's obvious they didn't get along.

Aron Winter was the coach, now it is Paul Mariner and they have Torsten Frings and Danny Koerverman(sp) and then it is a bunch of US, Central, and South Americans throughout.

Righto. Unknowns are always more concerning. Can't prepare for what you don't know is coming. I just hope we play well and I can't wait to see how we implement BR's philosophy. Should be a fascinating game regardless of the result.

First of all, Liverpool goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi on his long-term target to be first-choice goalkeeper. (Link here)

Peter Gulacsi is setting his long-term sights on becoming first-choice goalkeeper at Anfield after being selected for the club's tour of North America and Canada. The Hungarian has yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds since joining the club, originally on loan, in 2007, but hopes to breakthrough under Brendan Rodgers.

"One day I would like to be the No.1 'keeper for Liverpool," the 22-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com. "But we just have to see how the pre-season goes, what the boss thinks about me and make a decision about what would be the best for me.

"If it's a loan move again, then I will have to go on loan. If he thinks I can be part of his plans, then I will stay here. My long-term plan is that I would like to be Liverpool's No.1 keeper and whatever can help me to achieve that, I will do."

Speaking from the Reds' training camp in Boston, Gulacsi explained how he plans to make the most of the opportunity to impress Rodgers.

He said: "We are enjoying it. It's part of pre-season so the training is about getting fitness in and being ready for the season, but at the same time we are enjoying it. We have changed the environment, I think that has helped as well. It is a little bit hotter here than in the UK so obviously that helps to improve our fitness so I think we all benefit from this tour.

"It will be a good chance to show myself to the new staff and the manager. I hope I can impress him and I would like to be in his plans for the future. I hope these games will help me to do it."

Gulasci has gained experience of the English game through loan spells at Hereford United, Tranmere Rovers and, most recently, Hull City - and the 'keeper is confident they have improved his abilities.

C"Not just goalkeeping wise but personally as well, it is a different situation going on loan and being a No.1 'keeper somewhere," the Hungary U21 international explained.

"But I think I have benefited from all of the loan moves already and if I have to do it again, I will do it again."

Like many of his teammates, Gulacsi has been impressed by the new training regimes Rodgers has introduced since pre-season training began earlier this month.

He revealed: "The sessions are a little bit different than previously but we are all enjoying it and I think we benefit from this kind of work. We are looking forward to the season and trying to be as fit as possible. They are different, we get involved much more with the team. The boss wants the 'keepers to be involved, playing football, and that's why we are getting involved in the training sessions.

"It suits me and I really enjoy it, and I think it's the same for the other goalkeepers as well because we are feeling much more part of the team and we'll see how it goes.

"We still get a lot of work with John Achterberg but at the same time we are involved with the team. I think it's a good balance and I feel the improvement already. I think it looks good and we can really do it and play the way the boss wants us to play."

Dani Pacheco is relishing his return to training with Liverpool after a loan spell in his homeland and wants to make an immediate impression on the new manager. The Spanish youngster has 14 appearances under his belt to date at Anfield and after a couple of temporary stints away from the club, the 21-year-old is aiming to build on his progress and make a mark on the Liverpool first team this term.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "I hope to make an impression. I am trying to work as hard as I can, trying to do my best to impress our new manager. Hopefully I can do that over the next few games and then seasons.

"I feel like I've never been away, to be honest. Everybody at Melwood gave me a good welcome, as always, and I'm glad to be back."

Pacheco spent last season with Rayo Vallecano in Spain, following a similar stint with Norwich City during the previous campaign. The forward felt it was a worthwhile venture.

"I got a lot of experience," the former Barcelona youth said. "But I didn't play as much as I'd expected and I also had an injury for three and a half months which kept me off the pitch for a long time. But I learned a lot and I think I am back here stronger."

Now his focus is completely on making the grade with the Reds, a mission which begins with the club's tour of North America and Canada and with it a chance to show his skills to Rodgers.

Pacheco continued: "Trying to impress the manager is the most important thing. I'll try to work hard, play a few games and do my best. Ill also try to enjoy the experience and show the fans we are ready to take part in the Premier League."

Rafa Benitez plucked Pacheco from the Barcelona youth system in 2009 and the youngster's reputation grew with each opportunity in the first team - but he is hungry for more.

"I think I had a few games, but I never had a real chance to try and impress," he said. "I am trying to work hard, do my best and hopefully that will come. I can't wait to play for Liverpool and if I work hard, hopefully that will happen."

The hard work is already underway for Pacheco and his teammates, as the Reds prepare for the first game of their pre-season tour, against Toronto FC on Saturday. New training sessions and different ideas have been well received by the players and Pacheco added to the chorus of plaudits being given to Rodgers.

He said: "It is a lot different. Every manager has a new idea. For myself, I love the ideas he's got - it's the way I've been all my life back in Spain with my other clubs and with the national team. I'm loving the sessions, and I think everyone else is. We're working a lot with the ball and also working hard on when we lose the ball. That's the way he likes to play. It's hard work, but I think we'll get better and better. The weather has been hard, but we'll get better with time."

Pacheco spared a final word for compatriot Suso after the young midfielder helped Spain win the U19 European Championship at the weekend.

"He is a lovely guy and he deserves it. He played really well and worked really hard for the team. I am made up for him," Pacheco said with a smile.

I saw and read both of these earlier today. I think Gulacsi is living in dream world since he is currently fourth choice keeper but appreciate the ambition he is showing

Pacheco really needs to impress. I said last summer that he was drinking in the last chance saloon before he got loaned on from the club we loaned him too!!! He is one of those players that, for some reason, I want to see him succeed more than others, there is just something about him that wants me to see him playing in the first team week in week out. With Sterling and Suso possibly stepping up, Dani really needs to buck his ideas up, there isn't room for all of them...not yet anyway
