According to Boris Becker RVP has signed a 2 year contract, has connections with Persie's agent. I smell bullshit. https://twitter.com/#!/search/Boris%20Becker
Just what I was going to say. The source is Boris Becker. https://twitter.com/Becker_Boris Apparently he related to Robin Van Persie's agent's cousin whose name is Urso Gullible who is the brother of Reelee Gullible.
If Reelee didn't simply believe everything he was told was true, then he'd actually be a really reliable bloke.
...and in other news daily mirror is doing an exclusive tmrw stating that Rvp is off to utd...this is really getting annoying!m
don't let it get you down guys. Its the yearly arsenal transfer spectacular festival...enjoy! ...may the best errr...newspaper win!
Loads of talk about RVP to Manchester United today. Seriously, selling to them will be more annoying than selling to City again for me. Have got used to seeing City take our players but seeing United take our star players as well will be hard to take. We used to be great rivals, FFS.
If RVP leaves, we need to spend big to replace him. If RVP stays, we need to spend big to show ambition and challenge for trophies so he signs a new deal. Either way, spend big. Get Afellay and M'Vila. Either we show ambition, or we replace the quality that is RVP. Doing neither would be disastrous.
They're replacements for Chamakh/Bendtner and Vela/Arshavin. At least that's what I expect. Although knowing Wenger and the Arsenal board, we won't buy anyone else, and RVP will be sold on the last day of the transfer window after months of frustration for the fans, manager and players.
Very expensive for replacements for people too terrible to get in the team regularly? Just seen an Arsenal fan on Twitter say Santi Cazorla would be a step down from Walcott... Hmm
I believe they are adequate cover for RVP. However, we still need to spend in other areas and as always, marque signings are prefereable, but not necessary for us to be challenging next season. All this talk of spending silly amounts of money to replace RVP is unjustifiable imo.
I don't think that Podolski and Giroud were exact replacements for RVP but even Gilles Grimandi, Arsenal's chief scout in France described them as "insurance". http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...oud-signed-to-counter-van-persie-exit?cc=5901
Chamakh was second choice striker and Arshavin was first choice left wing for a couple of seasons. Gervinho was supposed to replace him but hasn't proven himself. Podolski was brought in to replace Arshavin and to give us an alternative to Gervinho should he not improve. As people have mentioned, they are high quality and good insurance for losing RVP, but in all likelihood we'll be a worse team next season if we lose RVP and don't buy anyone else. That's why I mentioned Afellay and M'Vila. By improving other areas of the team, we can make up the difference. I would also buy Niang as understudy to Giroud if RVP leaves because otherwise we're relying on Chamakh/Bendy again, just with a slightly worse first choice striker.
I think Podolski would move into the middle and "lead the line" if Giroud went down. Bendtner and Chamakh would be 3rd string. Podolski can play on the left, but he prefers the middle.
Ah yes, I forgot about that for some reason. Even so, we're all hoping Chamakh/Bendy will leave, so having our left-winger as second choice striker could be pretty risky, especially during the ACON when Gerv goes.
