It is like when you play poker. Some players are reluctant to fold the big blind because they have put money in. If the cards are not right, you have to fold.

Emotion aside, do you really think Suarez, Borini and Dempsey has 'Top4 Strikeforce' written all over it?

If Aston Villa signed them, you wouldn't bat an eyelid. You need much much better.

    It is not bad.

I support my club, so whoever we sign, I will get behind. Suarez is excellent, Borini obviously has talent, and Dempsey has scored lots of goals and is a grafter (something that we need in the new system). Sometimes you do not need three world class superstars, but an effective system that utilises it's parts to the maximum effect.

  7. Plus, with it looking like Carroll is leaving, I'd expect someone else coming in for upfront beyond Dempsey too. Let's not forget about Bellamy either <ok>

David, how can you bait on a group of 3 players you haven't seen play together (one of which isn't actually ours) in a system you have yet to see & decide whether they are good enough?

    I know I can't.

By the way are you this constantly negative about the players & manager decisions of the club you own/saved/support , I'm surprised the manager hasn't twatted you yet.

That was probably said by a lot of people when Newcastle signed Ba and then Cisse. The aforementioned people then watched them banging in goals and had to munch down second-helpings of humble word-pie.

I just think you could possibly be a touch less arrogant in your pronouncements: take it down to a notch or two below Il Duce, perhaps? <ok>

I am arrogant. Always have been. Too old to change that now.

The Dempsey link seems a bit odd to me, not that he isn't a decent Player, because he is, moreover that he seems to be at odds with Brendan Rodgers mo when it comes to signings. He has showed a desire for young hungry Players with something to prove.

I think he would make a decent addition, but as I said, you need much much better to progress

here's a question... never mind if its good enough or not... doesn't the scenario remind you of enrique and adam... player enters last year of contract and LFC come sniffing about looking for a cheap deal.

I hate that we're becoming such scabby cheapskates, digging around in the bargain bucket for players like Dempsey which would be "exciting" **** me, we're so far away from where we need to be at the moment and the distance will only get further as teams like Chelsea spend tens of millions each year and we barely make positive net spend

Early days yet perhaps a big signing is on the way. I hate this time of year waiting to see if that signing will be coming or not.

I keep thinking and hoping, but what if our summer spending literally is Borini, Dempsey and Allen? It would be a disaster, especially after losing reliable backups in Kuyt and Maxi. I will be SHOCKED if we spend more than £20m on a player this summer or in fact £20m net spend full stop! FSG say they want to win and build us up but they really haven't put their money where their mouth is yet let's be honest

I think BR is bringing in youth and experience, which is not to be sniffed at. Borini seems a talent and Dempsey is a proven premiership grafter. I agree somewhat with DS in that we do need some more talent to challenge for the top 4 this year. BR is saying that Rome wasn't built in a day, so I'd be hoping for at least one marquee signing this transfer window - perhaps after selling AC (if he does, in fact, go).

    Say it with your chest!

I know Dempsey isn't the name everyone is looking for but you gotta look at what he provides, goals, a bit more creativity, and good runs into the box to get himself into a position to score ( I lost count how many match threads all of us would be screaming for someone to get in the box!).

If he signs I think it will only help the team, and if he helps us get to CL or close to it, then we have more funds to buy better and players like him and downing can add depth to the team, experience as well.

Fear is Bluff that he scored goals for....Fulham. The same way Adam score freely for Blackpool. What works at one club doesn't necessarily translate to another, especially when it's a step up. I've never thought Dempsey was a bad idea and I can see a use for him, but I think it's scary to assume he will be a signing that solves a problem, I don't think he's good enough for that

But you could also say that he scored all those goals with who providing service? It is a gamble due to his age as he needs to come good pretty much straight away but the same things were said about Gary mac.

I don't want to feel that I am only defending him because he is American ( well partly) but he scored more goals than anyone on our team last year whilst playing for Fulham.

Again though, you point out Adam which is true as well. I am just waiting to see and want to see how we do when August 18th or the start of the season kicks off. All of the players so far have been giving glowing praise about the sessions and the youngsters feel they have a chance again. We shall see.

BUT do I miss the days of buying Torres, mascher, Alonso, etc? Ya, I do, a lot!
