Was reading our neighbours board earlier and they started a thread with 'Fulham put in strong bid for Whitts'. Couldn't be arsed to point out we'd turned down more than that on several occasions. What was even funnier was on another thread they were saying they should hold out for £20M for Allen. Allen is a talent no doubt, but 10 times Whitts? Don't think so.

Whitts is likely to be instrumental for us again this year. With Mutch coming into the squad and Etien, his playmaking could be even more influential.

Still don't know what to make of Miller leaving though. Undoubtably helps with the wage bill.

    £20m for Joe Allen!!!!!!!!!!!!<laugh>

Whitts is totally different class. Id say Whitts is worth around £6m.

Malky has said he's not for sale (of course he is if the price is high enough), but £2 million is clearly not a serious bid - they were just testing us out. I don't want to sell him (who does) but if we can't get at least £4 million then we should definitely not bother - it would take at least that much to replace him.

Not sure that's fair. Allen is class and showed it at prem level. Sure, market is distorted but that's the way it is. However pw is certainly worth more.

Not the least interested in what the Swans want or think they can get for Allen. Whiits for £2 million is a bit of a micky take from Fulham, double it with some add ons and then maybe a discussion will be had. Thanks to VT and other investors we do not need to sell.

In fairness lads, we wernt sure of the bid amount when we were discussing whittingham. But, I do agree, he is worth more, maybe £5 million.

As for our Joe, we don't think he's worth £20 million, but that's what we threw out there as rodgers said to name our price. Also, don't forget he's only 22 and widely regarded as one of the best passers of the ball in the premier league. He's worth his weight in gold to us.

It's also fair to say that many of your (more sensible) posters didn't think the £20M was realistic. We turned down £3M+ from West Ham in Janury so £4-6 for whitts and a few more for Allen is probably closer to the mark. People do get carried away though.

As you say Ash, he's worth more than that to you. It would cost as much to get a similar player and bythe time you add on the agent's cut etc, you'd spend more to get less. It's not like you need the money.

I'm glad they didn't think it was realistic lol, but I wouldn't sell unless an odfer of that sort came in.

Rubber the fact that the three relegated teams last year finished in the top 5 in the championship says there is quite a gap between the quality, but I get what you mean in terms of having to hold your own if you did make it.
As for Allen, don't forget guys, it's Liverpool we're talking about here! 20m on Henderson, 20m on downing (no goals, no assists!) and 35m on Carroll!! Why the hell shouldn't we be expecting 20m from them? :D
I don't want to get in to the Whittingham thing as I know I'm bound to get slated for my opinion so will just keep shtum :)

fulham were not serious in their persuit, otherwise they wouldnt have bothered with offering such a pittance for probably the top 3 player in the division...

and in any case £2m is not even £2m as these smaller clubs in the division only pay the fee they say if they dont get relegated, if not you knock off a million or so.

joe allen £20m, Lol @ swansea for that..

good player but still learning his trade, in todays crazy market probably worth £10m-£12m, but £20m is finished article price, and players like allen are ten a penny in la liga anyway..

So by your logic, Henderson and Carroll are the finished article? just curious.

Swamp, the club hasn't stated how much, one of our posters plucked the figure out of thin air.

Great player. 22. Widely regarded as one of the best passets in the premier league. If henderson, Carroll, torres are worth what they cost, then why isnt allen worth it.

I agree football has gone mental and Allen is not worth 20m... But when was the last time Liverpool bought a player actually worth their value?.. And that probably goes for the majority of football teams playing in our leagues. Henderson is not better than Allen, so if they are willing to pay that for him then we have every right to demand the same imo.
