This attempt at a 'story' is from The Sun. Why are you even entertaining it?

Arsenal are far superior to Liverpool and the gap is disgustingly big. Theodore Walcott would be an absolute moron to take such a huge step down in his career.

Well we'll see how you get on without RVP. Rodgers is supposedly relatively untested in the Prem, so what does that make Giroud and Podolski?

Rodgers has said he's been encouraged at how quickly the players have picked up his ways already in training and has quoted he thinks in the next 2 seasons he can have us back in the top 4 or at the least fighting for it.

I never wanted Dalglish as I knew he would be a failure for several reasons and if he was still here I would even be debating the Liverpool vs Arsenal thing but nows he's gone and we have a progressive, young and hungry coach who wants success and has the perfect footballing philosophy and where I was less than optimistic at first, he has made such a good start to his tenure already I really believe within 2 seasons we'll be back were we belong.

I think Borini is going to be an inspired signing looking at his Roma performances and how young and enthusiastic he is and if we get some of are other targets (Walcott, Holtby, Allen, Dempsey) I think were going to surprise a lot of people next season.

All oppositions constantly forget that last season we massively underperformed and had some freakishkly weird luck in front of goal. The squad, as bad as Kenny's signings where, is better than 8th and some players weren't putting in the required level of effort. That won't be the case from now on and the worst offenders (Downing and Carroll) look like their being frozen out and hopefully sold. Even without new signings under a competent Manager/Coach that squad is good enough for 6th when everyone is fit and playing to their level. Add in a few signings, get Lucas back, keep Gerrard fit and on form as he has been lately. and don't get Suarez suspended for 9 games I think we will get 6th at least.

I'm loving the way everyone is writing us off already and making us the underdogs as our problem as a team when we have failed has always been largely mental, not being able to handle pressure situations. Going into this season and next season no-one expects us to better 8th so that should remove are biggest obstacle which will be a huge help. It will be like when we were 12th under Hodgson and Kenny took over and as there was 0% expectation to do anything the players relaxed and played some of the best footy I've ever seen.

As a Liverpool fan I can see why this all would tempt Walcott, especially if the club sell him and those close to him the vision well.

For now. And disgustingly big is a rather big exaggeration as considering on the football pitch against each other last season we were equals.

It amazes me how many scouse fans now say they never wanted King Kenny the Messiah as Liverpool manager. It's like trying to find a German who would admit to being a nazi after WW2

No it's not, there was an 18 point gap, the difference between Arsenal and Liverpool last season was same size as the difference between Liverpool and Bolton.

The only reason for your strong performances on the pitch against us is simple. Underdog mentality. KKKenneth Dalglish installed that into you players when you came up against the big teams.

whoa..this thread has turned into a liverpool v arsenal slagging match..not what i intended..honest! I have a rather soft spot for pool prefer hating the manchester clubs personally not to mention the usual suspects (chelsea, spurs)! In any case it would be refreshing if players chose their clubs based on childhood loyalty but that seems to be a thing of the past and i hope theo's learnt to love arsenal as imo he is indispensable. Should he choose liverpool for the right reasons (childhood loyalty) i really won't know what to say as i'll be in two minds. I have no doubt the liverpool will invest and rise again but it will take some time before both our clubs can mix it with the best tbh. Before this boils over i reckon we should wait to see what decision theo makes.

As far as I am aware no one is writing Liverpool off this year. In fact once again, I am reading exactly what you have written, that the press believe that Liverpool underperformed last year and that they have the squad to compete for the title and that they will somehow come good.

Also bizarre is that despite 14 years in the top 4, you and the press are AGAIN writing Arsenal off. AGAIN we hear that the loss of "Key" players (who haven't even left yet BTW) will drop us out of contention and that the club is in crisis.

I imagine if you start acquiring all these players, then the pressure will very much be on you. If Rodgers sells Walcott on joining Liverpool from Arsenal who have given him top 4 in the PL and CL football every year, then I doubt "at least fighting for it" is going to be acceptable to him. The only way Walcott will go for this is if he is offered enough money to addle his brains.

We will sell you Walcott for 25M. When you finish 8th again, we will buy back a contrite and disgruntled Theo for 5M. Bit like Andy Carroll wouldn't you say?

I have not found a scouse fan on not606 yet who isn't hopelessly deluded or semi-******ed. I don't even have it in for Liverpool, I'm neutral to them, just their fans... they're thicker than the Spuds, which is difficult for me to admit.

So I suppose before Kenny came along you had been beating us everytime? We beat you with Roy as manager.

We know we have a mountain to climb to get to the top, but at least our owners want us to get there and have plans in place, your owners just want the money to flow, even if it means you winning nothing. We are no where near the top, but nor are you guys, and if you think you are, then you are the deluded ones. City, United or Chelsea will top the league. Arsenal will be also rans at best.

I like Arsenal more than any of the other top teams, as they play good football, give youth a go and have a sustainable model, but your clubs target for now is not winning trophies its paying off a stadium, and as such your owners have displayed a complete lack of ambition. Walcott would not be making a mistake moving to Liverpool, as although not as consistant as Arsenal, at least they are ambitious and aiming for the stars.

Sorry for ranting, but a few of you Arsenal fans are talking as if you are Barcelona and a million miles away from us, which isnt the case

You did? With Roy as your manager, you drew with us at Anfield and by the time we faced you at the Emirates in that season, he was sacked.

So, what you're saying is on one hand we only play well against big teams.

But, on the other hand, we hammered several teams in the cups, beat a 'smaller' team in the final of the CC etc etc.

Our points tally this season didn't reflect the performance of our squad as a whole. What it reflected was the inability of our strikers to stick the ball in the bloody net. The case in point of this was against Arsenal at Anfield.

Further, before Lucas got injured we'd lost two games. After, we lost 14. Just goes to show.

One of the most gutting things I've ever seen, that win would have been massive for us.

It took me until the second half to realise why we were giving him so much stick <doh>
