Ok, we've taken the piss out of Liverpool fans for the last eighteen months or so about the waste of money and space that is Andy Carroll. A donkey by all acounts and £35 million is way way too much for him obviously so it's generally accepted that his market value would be in the region of fifteen million, rising to maybe twenty had he actually scored some goals. Question is, now he is quite clearly available, would you have Carroll at United for fifteen million quid? Personally, I would snatch their hands off. With decent coaching, which he never stood a chance of getting under Dalglish, he is a very, very good centre forward of the type we don't possess. Bargain at that price I reckon and with the wingers we have twenty plus goals a season guaranteed. Another thing of interest is that Brendon Rodgers is making one massive big statement/gambol (both really) in being prepared to write off in the region of twenty million pounds of someone else's money. Highly confident I reckon and something that will likely as much come back and kick him right in the bollocks. As Matth would say, discuss. You fu(c)kers. (Hypothetically of course, it'll never happen. Will it?)
In all honesty ruffian, and i actually base this on stats etc rather than who he plays for, Carroll has never been a standout striker for me. There is nothing to suggest he would ever be a good PL striker, I just dont see where that notion came from. Not like he set the world on fire at NUFC in the PL or championship I see £15m as maybe £10m too much in comparison to say chicha who was £7m ish
The last direct transfer business between the clubs was in the 60s and Fergie kept it going when we wanted Heinze. So **** off.
I did say it was hypothetical you miserable git. I'm just a bit sick of the non stop racism rhetoric from idiots who know **** all about anything. Fan, he's worth more than five million. English players have premium on them so the Herdandez comparison is a little flawed. Realistically he's a ten million forward but there is no way he'd be available at that even.
The Toon are determined to get him back anyway Ruff(Carroll has friends in all the right places at NUFC),but your math like thread is a refreshing change from frozen confectionery.
I wouldn't want him, I've always thought he was a very one dimensional striker that was only ever consistently effective when fighting for the long, diagonal balls into the strikers, the same ball that Newcastle were set up to play at every opportunity when he was there, his movement off the ball has never looked great, his passing has never been more than average and his strike rate is not all that impressive. I'd rather wait for Will Keane to be fit again and give him a chance in the first team than take a gamble on the white Heskey.
He would slow the game down so much, and for a big guy he gets knocked off the ball alot. Big clumsy centre foward is not the way forward!
I'd definetley take him for 15 million no doubt. He has the potential to be a real hand full and I hope he doesn't fulfill that potential with Liverpool. I personally think Rodgers has been poor with the whole saga - Carrolls value had dropped enough but it has dropped even further with him making it pretty obvious he doesn't want him at Liverpool. I'd take him at United for the right price
He's better than Heskey, who has never been anything more than championship level at his very best. He's certainly not a typical United striker and nor would he be first choice but he offers a different option and personally I see that he has the raw ability that can be nurtured. Anyhow, it hypothetical as it's very unlikely to ever happen. What isn't hypothetical though is that Rodgers is about to piss twenty million quid away in one swoop, when you take loss on transfer, wages and the Borini transfer into account. Talk about heaping additional pressure on yourself.
I think he could be good, if we set ourselves up to play the way he needs us to play - all crosses and balls to his feet and making him the centre of the team. But I don't think Utd would do that - we'd limit ourselves far too much, particularly in Europe. I'm not even convinced he'd be a success if he went back to Newcastle, now they have some decent and skilful players like Cabaye and Ben Arfa in the team. He's got some talent, but needs to develop a lot more as a footballer before I'd want him at Utd. That said, as you say Ruff, there's probably no place in the PL he could develop better than at OT. So I might be interested in him for around £10 million - at that price he'd be a bit of a punt just like Bebe or Chicharito. Always the chance he could fall flat like Bebe, or he could be a great addition to the squad like Chica. So worth a punt at that price, but not £15 million imo.
Is he really that different from Heskey? The only real difference I see is mobility, and Heskey was a lot more mobile at Carroll's age, he actually had a good turn of pace and scored some good goals back then. Carroll seems to struggle with the basics of the game and at his age that's not a good sign, his passing is usually very sloppy and his movement is pretty static and not very intelligent. If you were just looking for a "big man" up front for a plan B, I would think there is a good argument to take Steven Fletcher in front of Carroll, he scores a lot of headed goals and is a handful up front with his workrate and movement.
Ahh but Fletcher doesn't have a ponytail and Carroll does. This is where your argument falls down my friend
He's got no pace, little control, no finesse, he's a prick as a person and is so way way overrated and oh, played for the scum.
...But if he joined Man Utd he'd be the best Striker in your squad by a mile! Rooney isn't a striker.
Enlighten me... what are the striking options at Man Utd? Welbeck?? LOL !!! Hernandez?? LOL !!! Young?? LOL !!! Macheda?? LOL !!! Berba?? LOL !!! Even the most hardened Man Utd fan would agree that the club has a massive lack of fire power up front. I agree, you would never sign Carrol but at the same time he'd walk into your team.
I don't think you would find any United fan who would agree with you. Out of that list Carroll is currently only better than Macheda (Young isn't really a striker ).
