Marginally better than the 'only doing it in the Scottish third division' that will scupper any future sales. We'd have had to lump in the cash but I'd agree that there was a chance (albeit risky from our viewpoint).
Zamora starts to huff and puff at the 35-40 minute mark and by 70 minutes he is knackered. If Cisse can stay on the pitch BZ might be able to do more than just hold up the ball. I expect to see AJ brought on in the latter stages of the game when defenders are tired and BZ is out of juice. With the emphasis on ball possession someone like BZ could prove essential but he can't do it alone. If the ball is knocked up to him then the midfield, wingers and second striker need to give him options. Too often last season he got the ball but didn't have many players running off him to feed the ball to. It looked like a case of "here you go big fella, see what you can do with that". I'm hoping to see our midfield go steaming up the pitch a bit more this season, Diakite could be our secret weapon in this regard as defenders looked scared of him when he ran at them.
Lets not forget Zamora and Johnson work well together,so If Johson is used,I can see them linking up well. I reckon that is part of the reason Johnson was brought in. Some of the posts about players being past it at 30 and not wanting Zamora,Holliet???...rediculous. Who exactly did you think we would be signing??? Messi,Ronaldo?!......exactly
I have no credibility on judging forwards. I hold my hands up to being one of those who wrote off Helguson but now recognise how fantastic he was for us in the last 18 months. As a result I now fully expect Hulse and Bothroyd to metamorphosise into the quality strikers we were led to expect. I also fully expect to be signed off from my paranoid schizophrenia treatment this time around. Oh, and Zamora doesn't figure in these extreme views. He is a decent hold up man at PL level who did a decent job for us in difficult circumstances last season. He has never scored a ton of goals and never will. I expect that to continue. Or do I?
So very true, DT knows his stuff. BZ is quality no doubt. Maybe best in the league at what he does. Imagine the confidence he brings to our midfield as they know he won't give the ball away and making their runs worth taking. Think about it, you know it makes sense.
Yes but they are two different human beings who play football for us ... a goal is a goal ...ask any goalscorer ... its means one thing on this day in your life you were wrong again ... there's always tomorrow
North is alright but Flyer's reading of the game and regular bizarre comments he makes, tells me he most definitely - without a shadow of a doubt - never kicked a ball in his life. His comments re "Goalkeeper's stances" in the Euros were cringeworthy. He sounds like someone who hasn't followed football all his life and has just decided to sign up. He talks like an American or a woman would with regards to football: Totally clueless.
Swords just can't understand these knockers can you? ... Had to give a aggressive A5 driver the learning this morning ... kept getting inches from me and ducking and diving while I was smoking my peace pipe and staying well within the speed limit ... the road went dual and suffice as to say he did not pass and his face as he hit his limiter was one of shock.
I'm sorry Oddball, I was with you right up until this but you've gone to far. Jay Bothroyd is the most disinterested lazy lump we've had in a long time. Rob Hulse tries but he's just past it. I agree, Zamora did his job very well last season. People have to accept that he's never going to score many and that his type of play looks boring and one dimensional - just like Emile Heskey. However, its a vital job and when done correctly, it allows others in the team to shine.
