    Just a random question. Does anyone remember us playing Monaco in the cup winners cup back in 1997 ? Our shirt sponsor changed from the usual brown ale to centre parcs can anyone tell me wbu ?

    I think our deal didn't include that competition and we had a wrangle with S&N
    Who wouldn't stump up more cash

    Think it was something to do with the fact that France (or the principality of Monaco) were against the advertisement of alcoholic beverages back then.

    It's this. France forbids/forbade (not sure if they still do) the advertisement of alcohol, at least on football shirts, Liverpool had the problem for years and always wore blank shirts for their trips across the channel.

    This is correct and as Centre Parcs at the time was owned by the same company we had their name on our shirts instead. Mind i couldnt see it either and not just down to the copious amount of alcohol consumed but also because due to the running track at Monaco you were well away from the pitch.

    27 hours each way on a coach to go to the game wasnt much fun either lol.
