4mill compensation to Blackburn, plus what is rumoured to be a very high agent and signing on fees . It will be a very expensive package that bears no resemblance to "free"
Why do we have to pay them £4million compensation if he is out of contract? I wasnt aware of that. Still think he is worth it.....as said above, replacing Championship fodder with Premiership quality.
a lot of very good posts on here, to me he's the quality we've been missing down the flanks a bit loke sinton but better, ican't see how the likes of swp will be happy & just can't see him much in the team, wouldn't surprise me if he went out on loan or sold, mackie i would keep.
The alternative question is would you think a £4 million fee is worth it for such a player? Who, if he progresses as he has, will be worth £10 million this time next year...
Exactly. All positive.....as long as we get players in other areas that are weak.....and TF has already said 2-3 more.....Ki-Sung would fit the bill for CDM and just a defender as well and we'll be laughing.
QPR poised to win Hoilett race By Jacob Murtagh Jul 16 2012 please log in to view this image QPR are set to win the battle for Blackburn Rovers winger Junior Hoilett, the Chronicle understands. Rangers, Newcastle United and Sunderland are all interested in the 22-year-old, who is out of contract at Ewood Park. Hoilett was due to hold discussions with German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach over the weekend as he weighs up his options. However, it is understood the Canadian as opted to join the Hoops instead. Rangers will have to pay Blackburn compensation for Hoilett, who came through the youth set-up at Rovers, as he is under 24. "Rangers will have to pay Blackburn compensation for Hoilett, who came through the youth set-up at Rovers, as he is under 24."
Hoilett isnt free, he could cost £4-5m. Theres not a lot of point having a very strong group of wingers if we have a poor group of defenders and no one apart from Faurlin and Diakite to play CM.
I think thats the key here, we are signing a player that could be worth a lot more in a couple of years time. It would be a sound piece of business for the club. Also before people start saying 'who would we drop?', 'is he better than tarbs?', He had a better season than tarbs last year , scored 7 goals, 6 of which were very good strikes. So he would definitely be pushing tarbs for a starting place which is a good thing , right? We are signing a very promosing young talented footballer for a snip in modern day terms. Can't see any downside in this at all.
Of course, the fact that weve wasted huge money on SWP and the like does my head in. He is at least the 5 best winger at the club (if Hoilett joins) and is on 60k a week. Thanks Warnock. The fact that we are only getting 2-3 more in means signing Hoilett will mean we are going to be understrength at CM, CB or FB.
we don't have a poor group..... yes we need maybe one more defender (2) maybe but Hughes improved the group we had hugely towards the end of last season. And you keep saying we don't need strong wingers... well what are we going to do when we get injuries, suspensions and troare and tarbs go off to the acon in January. This is what happened last season and we did not have the quality in the squad.
True. To be a successful club we have to have a quality squad with plenty of options. The point I was trying to make is that our options out wide are already in a large variety. We have Ji "third lung" Sung Park and Jamie Mackie who will run up and down the flanks until their legs give way. We have the sheer pace of SWP and bundles of flair in Taarabt. What would Hoillett give that we already don't have? Hes probably a mix of Taarabt and SWP but arguably better than both. I'd be in favour of selling SWP but who will take his wages? I'm afraid we are stuck with him for now, and I for one would be angry if we put a 60k/a week player in the reserves. A key thing to note is that all 5 players (5 dedicated wide men in the squad...is that really needed in a 25 man squad?) mentioned are right footed. We have no left footed player on the flanks (apart from perhaps our two left backs, who have both played advanced positions before.), which will make our attacks somewhat predictable and easy to defend. I understand Hughes is a primarily cautious coach. Which made me wonder how valid these Hoillett claims were after Taarabt signed the new deal and was awarded the number 10 shirt. Think about it, would Taarabt sign if Hughes told him he was going to be a bit-part/rotation player? I'm around 90% certain we will play a new system this season if Hoillett signs. I can't really think of any other reason Hughes would peruse so many wide players this summer. But the problem with this is that a new system would have to accommodate all these attacking players, which I do not think our current core would be able to insure. Derry hasn't got the legs to play in a 2 man midfield, Diakite likes to surge forward and Faurlin needs an enforcer to let him ping the ball around. All three need to play with each other. Which brings me back to building a good core before we sign players like Hoillett. We haven't even touched on how Cissé/Zamora/AJ are going to fit in all of this. Many people are of the opinion that AJ was a good signing as he has an contempt partnership with Zamora. But will the system even allow this? The point I was making with Givet and Olsonn is that neither are natural full backs. Of course, there are other factors to consider such as the individual attributes of the players mentioned. Olsonn is a player full of pace and energy whilst Givet is a real stopper. But since neither are comfortable in their positions they would need support against the teams overloading them (Most fancied 3 points at Blackburn last season, and thus this happened) that they just did not get enough of that from Hoillett. It's not a relegation-defining factor but we already have enough problems at the back without installing one more. I was making the comparison to what we have here at QPR. Both Fabio and Traore are wingers modified to play full back. Fabio's best performance in his otherwise mediocre United career, in which he has been overshadowed by his brother (Rafael has been given more chances at Full back for a reason), was probably the 2-0 win over Arsenal in the 2011 FA Cup, in which him and his brother played advanced positions on either flank. Quite simply he isn't comfortable defending and his flank is one where Park/Mackie will need to play when we are up against it. And yes, we would have to pay compensation to Blackburn as he is under 23 years old. Not quite sure how much but I think his contract at Blackburn has an influence.
Mackie Taarabt Traore Park SWP is a more than adequate group of wingers. Id be happy with any of the 1st 4 starting each game. We dont even have 4 FBs or 4 CBs. In fact we only have 6 defenders at the club if we count Traore as a winger and Young as gone. We only have 3 CM too.
I don't count Taarabt as a winger in the true sense of the word! He's far better in the middle as I think you agree!
