Why not? he scores more ands gets more assists than almost anyone else in his position in the league.

I bet Malouda, Nani, Lennon, Bale, Milner, Valencia etc.. will be asking for a simular amount when their next contract is due for renewal. (if they are not on that much already)

Walcott is not in a position to be one of our top earners when he isn't even amongst our top 5 important/best players in the starting XI.

He's the 2nd most productive behind RvP based on last seasons stats.

What are you basing this on?? As Bonstar pointed out in terms of attacking stats he's our secong MOST effective?.. so what constitutes the 'top 5 important/best players' in the warped mind of 'The Zlatan'?

We've continued scoring lots of goals over the last few Seasons but we've also conceeded way too many so I would argue that our attacking players have been more effective than our defensive ones.

Stats? Because they're reliable aren't they?

And the forward line only consists of 3 players, there are another 8 players behind them on the field.

What constitutes it is their importance to the team through good, consistent performances. van Persie, Koscielny, Sagna, Arteta and Song are all far more important/better in their respective positions than Walcott.

A majority of goals created by Van Persie were a result of Theo. Theo is our 2nd most effective player.

Same here, but when players like Squillaci or Denilson are on 60k here, I can understand Theo (65k) why he'd want a significant payrise.

Ashley Young earns £130k at United, so £100k for Walcott would be fine at the inflated market prices.

Anyway Theo would have to be brain-dead to want to move to Liverpool

And? If we had a better winger than Walcott, he would have created even more for van Persie. He's effective, statistically. Over the course of the season though, he is inconsistent. I'd like to keep him, but I'm not against selling him if the price is right. Although I do agree that he would be absolutely stupid to leave.

I think this is the crux of the matter. While the cold statistics suggest Walcott is an effective attacking player, the reality is a different matter. It seems to me that a number of posters have forgotten the huge number of games when Walcott did next to nothing. There were several big games when we really needed something from him to push us clear of our rivals and get a bit of breathing space and he failed to deliver. Who's to say that a more natural, skilful winger wouldn't have got far more assists and chipped in with far more goals? We were over-reliant on RVP last season and one of the reasons is that our other forwards let us down, Walcott being the main culprit.

I don't understand the Liverpool rumours. They're a worse team than Arsenal by quite some distance, and with players like Shelvey, Spearing, Henderson and Carroll, the future doesn't look rosy (thanks Dalglish for setting Liverpool back 3 years!)

Walcott does go missing in too many games, but his skill and contribution to the team is undeniable, despite his patches of poor form.

What people have to remember about Walcott is that all though it seems like he's been at Arsenal forever, he spent most of his first four or five seasons injured or recovering and trying to get his place back in the team, since he fully recovered, he's had his best two seasons, scoring a bucket load the season before last and creating a ton of assists this season just gone.

He needs to improve on his form to be consistent, but the talent is there and proven in the premier league. He's still only twenty three, he's got the best years of his career just ahead of him and I think they should be with Arsenal. We'd kick ourselves if he found that consistency with another club.

Agreed-he's made me so angry at times but his ability, although patchy, is clear. I'm not always convinced that we use him effectively, either. He's still young, it's a season or two too soon to make a definitive judgement. If nothing else, I really do worry that if he went to another club he might come good and leave us wondering what could have been. But there's no way that club would be Liverpool. No matter how bad things have been (and it's all relative), the comedy club that keeps on giving has always cheered me up.

If we let him go we will regret it. For one thing winger is not the position he was acclimatised to as a youth player and one he is adjusting to. This was his first injury free season in which irrespective of how much he goes missing has proved productive. If he can produce games like Newcastle and Aston villa on an occasional basis why can't he produce more consistently on his second injury free season. Don't compare to other players everyone is an individual and improves at their own pace. He has definitely improved his crossing and shooting no reason why his dribbling can't with a good break prior t preseason.

Spearing cost us nothing and will only play if there are severe injuries... he may even be sold this summer.

Shelvey has a lot of potential. Henderson too.

Carroll... who knows what'll happen to him.

We're not far off your level at all. RVP was the only difference between us at Anfield and we played your (albeit weakened) team off the pitch at the Emirates.

Wouldn't be too sad to see Theo go if it meant more game time for Oxo.

Haha. Liverpool miles behind Arsenal? Did you watch last season? We battered you at the Emirates and dominated you ate Anfield for 90 mins. The only difference was you had a clinical Striker who got two chances all game and scored. You lose RVP as expected we will come above you next season.

You are all also forgetting when saying £Why would Waslcott want to go to Liverpool?" that he and more importantly his family and those around him with influence are all massive Reds. that will play a massive factor in this if he decides to leave, plus he'll know under Rodgers and his football philosophy and the new players were bringing in, and the English dross were bombing out, we are going places in the next few places as we have a board who are willing to actually right big checks and offer big wages often.

Thank you for just providing evidence as to why liverpool fans are known as the most deluded in the country. While I admire your optimism, I think you should wait and see what happens with rodgers, the guy has had 1 full season of top flight football, and people forget that swansea were playing attractive football under mertinez, liverpool fans seen to think he turned swansea around when all he really did was continue the good work of the others before him.

You lot are totally deluded if you think you're going to be playing this free flowing passing attractive game any time in the next few years.
