It's most definitely a racist term and he should at least admit that after his mock indignation regarding John Terry.

Discrimination is all-encompassing, racism is not. Black is not a 'race', but to victimise someone who is black is discrimatory. That's wht the act is called the Discrimination Act, not the Racism Act. And how is a jew, say like martin samuel, a different race to any other person whose family have lived here for generations?

I can't really see that many muslims being offended by an incorrect throwaway comment on a football forum to be perfectly honest.

For anyone interested I would recommend these two book on Ali, both great reads and both will tell you all you need to know.

    Just an aside ;

Back on topic though, I can't see how this choc ice term is racist as it is not derogative to the color of Cole's skin or indeed his race. It's a criticism of his personality and nothing more.

To be racist does it have to be derogitory about a particular race or colour ?

Is choc ice offensive to white people or black people ?

EDIT : just seen the above by Ruff - pretty much the point I'm making also (beat me to it ) <ok>

This. It could be taken in an offensive way, but imo it's no more racist than calling someone a white supremacist or white nationalist. There's a clear reference to skin colour in that one too...should everyone who's ever attended an anti-BNP rally be locked up?

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if the PC brigade somehow managed to argue that calling someone racist is, in fact, racist. Go figure...

    Are you really this thick?
First off .........what ****ing prison? Max possible penalty was a fine of 2.5K.Secondly choc ice, does not mean someone is fake it's an insult a black man uses towards another black man implying that in their opinion he acts, thinks and wants to be white. In essence disregarding his heritage exactly the same as “coconut or Uncle Tom”

    John Amaechi
Former NBA basketball player, psychologist and educator "It is the idea that a black person is black only in skin colour but inside they are really white. It's a highly derogatory term. It's a dangerous term because it allows black boys especially but black people in general, to believe that there is a way of being black that is somehow distinct from being white. There are people that think if you don't wear a certain type of clothing or listen to a certain type of music you're not really black. It's a really dangerous thing. There are black boys who do less well in school because they believe by doing well there, they are acting white. To me, this is devastating for black boys and black people everywhere. It's a deeply offensive term with racial connotations."

Repeat - It's a deeply offensive term with racial connotations.

Rio will be lucky to get away with this on top of the 'liar liar' comment. What's worse is that he seems to be agreeing Cole should have given different evidence due to the skin colour of people involved.

Rio basically agreed with a comment that critised ashley cole for "acting" like a white man. So that means rio must believe there is something wrong with how white people act/think/behave. Rio must think there is some difference between how white and black people act. He obviously thinks that cole should of sided with anton because he is black. That black people should stick together. I love the fact that rio sits on the sidelines making comments on a case he knows **** all about. Rio is not a judge or anything. So who is rio to say that cole wasnt just telling the truth? He is implying cole lied with his testimony (which rio knows **** all about because he wasnt there) because cole is really a white man inside and thats what white men do according to rio.

How are you not getting this?

He's basically agreeing with someone slagging off Cole for providing evidence in support of a white man on a racism charge. So just cos Cole is black he is meant to just support the black man regardless of the facts??

Racist or not, that is very questionable behaviour. Particularly given the case in question and his links to it.

I'll say it again, Rio will be lucky to get away with that and he's not fooling anyone (except some blind United fans) that the choc ice reference means fake and not black man who is 'white' inside. What exactly is white inside anyway?

He slagged Cole of for defending Terry when Terry had made racsit remarks to his brother. Not because he thinks that he has an obligation to other black people.

Cole defended Terry when Rio, and alot of other people, obviously 100% believe that Terry did make racsit remarks. Plus Rio is obviously pissed off that he thinks Cole has defended Terry against his brother just because they are teammates - unless you really believe that Terry was simply repeating what Anton said - if you do believe that I'd suggest it's not us United fans which are blind.

I personally don't think it's racist by Rio although I do think it is stupid to even put himself in this position.

Does it mean fake - no I don't think so but nor do I think it's racist.

Some choc ices are brown on the outside and brown on the inside.

Some are white on the outside and white on the inside.

Is it not a fundamentally biased view to assume choc ices are all brown on the outside and white on the inside, and that that was Ferdinand's implication? And furthermore is it not teetering on unhealthily racialized mentality to project an ethnic meaning onto his words?

    [/barrister]

PS: not sure why I'm defending the anatid-looking Judas ****, but hey ho.

I'm not trying to do anything, Rio's doing a fine job without my help.

John Amaechi as reported on the BBC isn't as dismissive of the 'choc ice' reference as you are so I'm hardly living in a world of my own am I?
