Rio wasn't being racist. He basically called him an Uncle Tom. It wasn't a slur on white people as some people on this topic would like to make it look like. It was a slur on Cole's character.
The same way i didn't think Suarez was a racist but just misadvised to say what he did (culture is a very important thing here), i don't think Rio is racist either. The majority of people getting bent out of shape about this, i'm sorry to say, is white people. And i feel sorry for white people because you get judged differently, but that's because of history. A white person says something, it's racist, a (insert other race) says the same thing, it's fine. Replace Rio with say....Rooney, then it's a whole different story.
At the end of the day, it wasn't racist and for those beating the drum of 'it should be the same for everyone' can forget about it for now because until everyone is treated the same, then racial issues will be judged as they are.

My only problem with the tweet is that Cole was insulted because he had the gall to defend a white man.
That is racism pure and simple. Rio agreed with it so what does that say to you?

I get what you mean. i think it was dumb to like it. it's borderline offensive at the very least. I wouldn't have responded to the tweet personally.
However, you have to remember that a highly publicised case like this surely has the attention of everyone. Black people included. For a case where the reason he was found not guilty was because they could not prove 'beyond a reasonable doubt', it still leaves bad feeling for people especially when it is clear JT is the big boss man. Now i'm pretty sure Ashley cole lied to protect his buddy (not cos he's white). We all know that. Lip readers and cameras proved what he said, he was not 'repeating'.
Anyway i digress, the reason for the comment is he's going out of his way to protect JT who was in the wrong i might add, who happens to be white. In black culture, this is called being an uncle Tom. Which is why i said culture is a big factor in all these cases.

You use an awful lot of words to say "We want our cake and to eat it too". Even if the FA wanted to frame their laws in this manner (and I'm damn sure Luther Blissett, Gordon Taylor and Clark Carlisle want them to) the law of the land, in this case The Discrimination Act, prevent them from doing so.

What Rio said, based upon the standards by which Surez was judged, was racist. It at least deserves an FA inquiry to explore it, if not police action for baiting a witness in a criminal trial.

The cry went up after the Terry verdict "this will stop black players comming forward to report racism." This, and the appalling, co-ordinated attacks on Glen Johnson, are just as likely to deter black players offering support/evidence to white players, are they not?

Wonder what Clark carlisle has to say...:emoticon-0125-mmm:

There are a few posts in the last few days which have sailed very close to the wind In their underlying content.

In a veneer of debate,of criticising people who are so called fanatics they themselves have set out to smear and undermine the whole anti racism campaign. They ridicule it and they attack those who promote it. They are unwelcome on their own board but yet they get a platform here.

Read carefully those posts and work out whats the ultimate objective. It is one thing defending a player like some Chelsea fans have done quite another using the recent trial to revive something quite awful linked to another so called great club which has fallen on hard times.

Mocking religion isn't racist, people can't choose the skin they're born in, they do however choose their religion.

This article is based on hypocrisy actually, I doubt you even read it.
Instead you jump on one tongue in cheek comment I made and ignored the original post.

Ali regretted calling Frasier an uncle Tom, if only his racist black panther/Muslim advisers had guided him against making such derogatory accusations instead of encouraging him.

I notice you have also ignored the original post, well done for being offended on behalf of a religious cult that you don't belong to though.
For the record I find all religions to be ridiculous and it's my right to express my opinion, and it's the followers right to say I'm going to hell, I won't take offence.

Err, no. Not even remotely racist. It's incorrect, in that Ali doesn't regret turning to Islam, but it certainly is not anywhere near on the planet of being racist. Just so you know. <ok>
