Yes, I remember the 4 goals on his debut :) I wasn't there but they did show it on Match of the Day that night (this back in the days when they only featured 2 or 3 matches).

    I remember colin lee too!

My mums husband was a Liverpool supporting violent piece of ****....I was 10 at the time and we had moved house that day so I didn't get to see the results after the wrestling or hear it on the radio (was it radio 2 back then?)... he told me we'd won 9 nil and i just assumed he was taking the piss as usual...didn't believe him til I saw it in the paper the next day...in my little 10 yr old way it made me walk taller to school on the monday to face all the glory hunting Liverpool and Man utd fans (I live in london)

I remember seeing it on MOTD too, they only showed 2 matches at that time, and over the season had a quota for each division, I think they showed less than 10 matches from outside Division 1, so it was amazing that they just happened to be there that day. Did Ian Moores score a Hat-trick as well that day?

Ian Moores did indeed score a hat trick that day (Peter Taylor and Hoddle got the other two).

Yes, I thought that when wrote it !!

I guess the most recent Spurs/Gills links have been Andy Barcham and Charlie Lee.

At last a thread I can relate to, as I was a regular at most home games during Mr Burkinshaw reign, no season ticket then just turn up and pay at the turnstile, usually a good hour before the kick off, sit on the east stand terrace, read through the match day programme before standing, watching and singing and chanting through out the match. I was there for the debuts of Ricky Villa and the magestic Osvaldo Ardiles ( a 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa) all that torn news paper like the 78 world cup.
The FA cup semi-finals, (the 81 semi-final replay at the sewerage works, the only time decent football was ever played there then) finals and replays in 81 and 82, the league cup in 82, the charity shield in 81 and 82 all the home games in the eufa cup, absolutely drenched in the 84 eufa cup final second leg, extra time and penalty shoot out and all, joining in the pleading for Him to stay, losing my voice for a week because of the yelling, singing and shear euphoria. Standing outside the town hall after the finals. Watching the great Glen Hoddle make his home debut to his last game. And then the premier league started and football sold it's soul to Sky and the £.

I can remember Terry Neill arriving on his first day at Spurs.Typical Arsenal flash boy.Arrived in an open top yellow Jaguar car.I thought "Oh My God!What have they done.?"
That season saw Spurs surviving, just, with their old team...and then he was gone!
Enter Keith. The first thing they/he did was transfer Pat Jennings to Arsenal and other players everywhere else and bringing in a host of youngsters. But they were too inexperienced at the time and went down.
Division 2 was one heck of a fight with some very good teams but we got back at first try!
Low and behold,we picked up the newspapers and read that Keith was in Argentina trying to sign Ossie.Which he did, with Ricky thrown in.I think they debued at Notts Forest and this was the beginning of a grand return to some good old Spurs football.
Keith never was a great footballer himself, playing in the lower regions himself.
Funny how great players don't make great managers isn't it?
Bobby Charlton comes to mind,as does Bobby Moore and the list goes on......
One thing though.Even if unsuccessful,Keith always tried to get his teams to play pure football.
