Mark Hughes will look to complete a hat-trick of Man United signings as he prepares to a launch an £8m bid for Old Trafford striker Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian international has a year left to run on his current contract but Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly not ready to let the 31 year old leave ‘on the cheap’ so an offer of £8m may tempt the Scot into selling the former Tottenham man. It’s clear that relations between the Loftus Road side and Man United are good having seen Ji-Sung Park moving to the West London club and Brazilian youngster Fabio joining on a season long loan deal. Mark Hughes has been looking to improve QPR’s attacking options and to that end has snapped up Andy Johnson on a free transfer after his Fulham contract came to an end and now the Welshman is looking to bring in Dimitar Berbatov and co-ownerTony Fernandes is ready to back the Super Hoops boss by making funds readily available for a significant offer. Though Berbatov has struggled to secure a regular spot in Ferguson’s first team picture the talented forward is actually in the best goal-scoring form of his career, notching up 28 goals in his last 44 Premier League appearances. The Man United man has fallen behind Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck in the striking pecking order and may well welcome a return to London and the promise of a better chance of regular first team football. QPR have already brought in some top notch signings this summer and are clearly looking to greatly improve on last term’s relegation threatened campaign. Hughes has a number of strikers in his squad but of those in his armoury very few have made a positive impact. Speculation is rife that the the QPR boss will look to offload DJ Campbell, Rob Hulse, Heidar Helguson and Jay Bothroyd as the former Man City manager looks to put his own stamp on the squad he inherited from Neil Warnock in January.
Same source says we're going after Defoe for £8m. £8m seems to be the magic number at the moment. You'd think they would be more imaginative.
Why? I've been looking at the Norwich board recently (call it masochism). You sound exactly like the majority of their posters - scared of spending cash on players, as if the money was their own. No vision, no ambition. I actually trust the owners and managers of our club, I think they know what we can and can't afford. Both these players are proven, consistent premier league goalscorers, a pretty valuable commodity. Don't think either will happen, but great if one does.
Me too mate, when you think of who we have been signing for the last 15 odd years, we could only dream of days like these. Now they're here we're getting too friggin picky and pretentious. Wake up! This is what we have been dreaming about.
£8m for a 31 year old with a year left on his contract?? Journos know FA about finance. As fernandes said on qpr player the other day, they've already spoken to all the people they're interested in. I doubt defoe or berbartov make up the 2-3 definites.
Respect the doubters opinions as we are brothers but these players have proven premiership experience Imagine their performances if they signed ? It would like SWP debut but ten fold and everyone of us would be chanting there names Christ on a bike and anyone mentions some idiot player from league two who scored 3 goals against Mansfield then rejects these two ... Cocks to you
Exactly this. I don't think it will happen either, but it's still good that we can talk about it compared to the ****e of years past. PS. I would rather have one of these two that a lot of us on here have dismissed rather than Toilett whom most were keen on.
That was a phenomenal debut. I thought we had a black Messi on our hands. How could he be so sh*te since?
Not scared of spending money but throwing it away, at the end of the contract neither of those players will have much value. Also neither are guaranteed to start either with Cisse here. Now Id be over the moon if if we spent £8m on Samba because hed instantly become the best defender at the club.
Im glad someone else knows about finances. If things dont turn out right it s Barton/SWP situation all over again where we wont be able to give them away. At least make sure theres some resale value if youre going to spend £8m on a player.
Its this kind of thing that leaves me at a loss with Flyer. There's summat wrong with this blokes Nut, I swear to God.
